Wow, this is news to me. This would mean they are more dangerous than terrorist concerning the spread of propaganda. I think the governments, local, state and federal, needs to eliminate any funding to them under the patriot act.

Rimming? I don't think I even want to know...

BTW, isn't this the same bunch who refused to support Cuban librarians who were thrown in the juzgado for offering books to the public? In the words of my world, "Check Six"...

Oh, yeah, and I'm a Christian Air Force Officer who only WISHES he'd attended the USAFA!

Resolution on the Connection between the Iraq War and Libraries Whereas, the justifications for the invasion of Iraq have proven to be completely unfounded; and

Whereas, the ALA has not done their homework:

Whereas members of al Qaida, an organization bearing responsibility for attacks on the United States, its citizens, and interests, including the attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, are known to be in Iraq; Whereas Iraq continues to aid and harbor other international terrorist organizations, including organizations that threaten the lives and safety of United States citizens;

Whereas the attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001, underscored the gravity of the threat posed by the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction by international terrorist organizations;

I suggest the librarians take their resolution and file it between, "Wacko" and "Where the Sun Don't Shine".

The Council of the American Library Association (ALA) has passed a resolution that calls for the withdrawal from Iraq of all U.S. military forces and a return of full sovereignty to the people of Iraq.

How thoughtful of the A.L.A...but did they bother to consult the people of Iraq? Fortunately, the Iraqis have more sense and want us to stay until a viable government can be constitutionally formed and an adequate security force implemented.

The librarians have threatened to fine George W. Bush two cents a day until the occupation is over.

LOL! No sense in pointing out to them that Iraq already has a sovereign government and US and coalition troops remain there at the request of that government.

I'm beginning to think most institutions of "higher learning" in this country should put warning labels on themselves: "letting us teach you anything will in fact make you less smart than you probably already are, and by the time you've invested 4 to 6 years and about $100 grand for degrees we guarantee you'll be a total dumba*s."

Don't waste your time. Universities are cutting back on these programs at the graduate level because there is no money for the graduates. Pay is too low to justify the additional expense of the degree.

Actually, you should pick up a copy of Library Journal sometime (at the local library) and prepare to be "entertained". John Berry III (the editor) should be included in Bernard Goldberg's list of 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America.

One of the things I have found to be extremely humorous over the past few years is how they try to claim Laura Bush as "one of us" (a librarian) and then bash her husband, conservative policies, etc. in the very next sentence.

Well, I was planning on librarian for my 3rd career when I am old and feeble. By that time I probably wont even need the degree.

If you want a real eyeopener, just go to your local library or branch and see how many people are not there! Sure, some poor souls are using the computers, but the adult literature is moved upstairs due to no traffic, and the kid's stuff is on the main level. They still have staff, but that is being cut down due to budget cuts by the cities and counties. The other 'patrons' are homeless, and those with no place else to 'hang out'. The Internet has replaced the library for most folks. It is sad, as I believe people are reading less due to the changes occurring around us.
