Report Says Mitterrand Approved Sinking of Greenpeace Ship (Leftists Attacking Their Own...?)
New York Times ^ | 7/09/2005 | staff

PARIS, July 9 - Twenty years ago, two French secret service frogmen attached mines to the hull of a ship owned by the environmentalist group Greenpeace as it lay anchored in a New Zealand harbor, and the explosions ripped large holes in it.

The sinking of the Rainbow Warrior before it could set off to protest French nuclear tests in the Pacific killed a Greenpeace photographer on board, provoking much embarrassment in Paris and the resignation of top officials.

Much has become known about the government's deliberate sabotage of the vessel thanks to the tenacious pursuit of the case by the French press. But Saturday, exactly 20 years after the operation, the newspaper Le Monde added another intriguing chapter by publishing what it called the account of the events written by the man in charge of the plan.

Bad blood between Greenpeace and France. Hard to know which one to root against, ain't it...? :)

Not surprising Mitterand didn't like Greenpeace

Communists are often not even rational environmentalists much less wacko extremist environmentalists. Look at the environment in eastern Europe.

The French government is one of the more brutal of the Western Democracies. Doesn't anyone find it odd that France is the first to "cover" for brutal dictators, and the last to stand up for the oppressed?

Nah, it's simple. Just remember: The friend of my enemy...no wait; the enemy of my friend...no, that's not it; the friend of my friend....Oh,forget it. Screw them both! They deserve each other. LOL

The sinking of the "Rainbow Warrior" (snicker), was the greatest French military victory since Napoleon.

Like Kissinger said re the Iran/Iraq war...

"Too bad they both can't lose."

At least Mitterand was a member of the French Resistance during WWII.

"After Hitler attacked the Soviets, what else could a committed Commie do?!"

You would be taxed to even remotely back that claim with facts, buddy.

Here's a hint : look up what the late President Reagan said about Mitterrand, look up the story of "Farewell", a French mole in the USSR that the CIA was given access to, look up the tactics Mitterrand used against the French Communist Party throughout the 1980s, bringing it from 15% to less than 8% (and less than 3.5% today).

In French, underwater divers are called "les hommes-grenouilles," or "frog-men."

Scratch a Liberal. Uncover a Fascist.

Fascism is just a variant of socialism.
