The slaughter in London is another grisly wake-up call that likely will go as unheeded as earlier ones. Already the standard narrative is being trotted out: evildoers created by what the New York Times predictably called the root causes of terrorism: autocracy, or economic stagnation, or Palestinian suffering, or globalization's dislocations, or Western historical sins, or the war in Iraq (the cause will depend on the political prejudices of the pundit) have hijacked Islam and distorted its peaceful message.
And now they are using Islam to justify murder in order to further their own ambitions or dysfunctional psychic needs. Given this explanation, so the story goes, we must be careful not to demonize all Muslims and assure them that we respect their religion and culture. The tale is then wrapped up with fierce threats against the terrorists and protestations of admiration for Islam.
Believing this delusion requires that one ignores fourteen centuries of Islamic jihad against the West, a war of conquest and colonization ratified by centuries of Islamic theology and jurisprudence. Indeed, what we call Islamic radicals are in fact Islamic traditionalists; it is the so-called moderates those wanting to compromise Islam so it can coexist with Western ideas such as secular government, separation of church and state, and human rights who are the radicals and innovators.
The terrorists are simply fulfilling the traditional and orthodox command of their religion to battle the infidels who resist the revelation of Mohammed and the global socio-political order mandated by Islam.
Listen to one of the most respected and influential of Muslim clerics, Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi, on the legitimacy of jihad:

Exactly we're being asked to be silent when speaking up is a matter of self-defense. It would be immoral not to speak up.
He's not a king, he's our duly elected president. I have a right to disagree with a specific policy. I don't see you making any sort of argument here except that you don't want me to speak my mind. All you can say is that "you're wrong" and "you're against the president."
That's no argument, and it's not democratic. You're trying to silence dissent. Is that how you want to be known, given that your handle includes the term 'Jihad' in it?
I would like to see this question answered as well. Please do enlighten the infidels...
It's way past time that people took note that either the members of the MSM haven't bothered to read a copy of the koran or they are lying to us about islam.
When you are wrong I will tell you. It's entirely up to you if you want to continue being wrong.
After we've proven yet again that conquering faiths can be conquered, and that we're not tied down by our ideals when it comes to protecting our children, the good Muslims may come around and begin to use force in reforming the religion.
I'm not holding my breath anymore. The 700 casualties in London last week convinced me to give up waiting. If they want to ally with us in Iraq, fight on brothers. But here in America, and in the British Isles? They should be put on notice: you're not welcome here anymore. Look what's happened to France: they're now at 25% Muslims. You can't argue with those statistics. They spell a disaster.
Meanwhile, I think 'rattlesnake' when I think Muslim.
Is that part of your 'Jihad' -- to tell people they're wrong without showing why, or offering an alternative?
Show me an alternative to the 700 casualties last week. Make it acceptable to every one of their families.
One wonders what would have happened if FDR had referred to "moderate Nazis" or called fascism the "politics of peace?"
What model flying carpet do you have?
Well, we know what happened when he did that to the Soviets while the neocons like Patton were ignored.
I agree, and so does VDH. He takes a swipe at Thomas Friedman, much as I tried to do here:
The next few weeks will show whether the British have advanced as far down the road of dhimmitude as have the Spaniards, who responded to the murder of their citizens not with the force and resistance their ancestors showed for seven centuries, but with fear and appeasement. As for us, we'd better discard our illusions that the jihadists, as Thomas Freidman put it, are a cancer within the [Islamic] body politic and accept instead that jihad just may be a vital organ. -- from the thread's article by VDH
Conquest is a vital organ of this religion. A few offshoots like Sufism downplay it, but in Shia and Sunni, it's right out there with bloody swords on the foreheads of children and black flags.
LOL
Yes, we still have some waking up to do. Isn't it interesting that no iman from a Muslim country has issued a fatwa against bin Laden and his minions?
Who knows? The IRA was training in Libya and other Arab Muslim countries.
Do they play it for you?
Perhaps the V1 model..
