Emily's projected path alongside the islands means it'll be sucking up dirt for a long time. Might well suppress it till it passes and also might put people off guard.

That's almost the identical path of Dennis, between Hispanola and Jamaica. And they have it at Cat 3 south of Hispanola.

But it's way too early to put any credence in that track. The sucker sure does look like it is getting organized in a hurry this morning, thought.

A forecaster friend in the area says that the high pressure ridge holding Emily south for now, wraps around in the area of Mississippi and Alabama, and he expects that Emily will follow the ridge north and northeast when it reaches the edge. That would put Louisianna and Mississippi in the crosshairs.

Being on the MS gulf coast, I hope he's wrong...

And if the ridge keeps it south it could be a northern Mexico or Texas storm.

I'm hoping for the ridge to stay in place and/or strengthen and lengthen to keep pushing her West, but the long-range forecasters I talked to don't currently think that is the case. Since they live here too, we're all praying they are wrong.

A summer in Florida still beats a winter anywhere else.

You've obviously never lived in southern California.

My dad suggests that y'all build little dome houses--think ladybugs--made of mud.

At the rate we're going, we might run out of names. Hurricane names beginning with letters "A" through "W" are reserved, but "Q" and "U" are omitted, so that's only 22. They could add, say, Yvonne and Zack if needed, but then what? Alice Ann? Billy Bob?

Q, U, X, Y, and Z are all omitted, so every Atlantic list has 21 names on it...last being W. If we run out of names from the standard list, names of Greek alphabet letters are then used.

Alpha
Beta
Gamma
Delta
Epsilon
Zeta
Eta
Theta
Iota
Kappa
Lambda
Mu
Nu
Xi
Omicron
Pi
Rho
Sigma
Tau
Upsilon
Phi
Chi
Psi
Omega

However, the highest number of storms in any season on record was 21 in 1933...if they were given names back then, that the last would have been the 'W' name.

Now that I mentioned 1933...it's interesting to note we're 13 days ahead of that year's 5th TC. And w/ yet another system to possibly form in the next few days, we just may give that season a run for its money. -rob

Correct. Monterey for a year though. They can keep that in the winter.

Water temp still has you beat ;-)

I think I might do the same or partially so. Took down the first floor boards today but left the second floor windows boarded on the west and east sides. I may paint them white to match the house so they are not so visible. Since I live alone, it isn't such a big deal for me.

According to Dave Barry, the next three hurricanes are Aaron, Boutros-Boutros, and the Hurricane Formerly Known as Prince.
