WASHINGTON, July 11 - Nearly two years after stating that any administration official found to have been involved in leaking the name of an undercover C.I.A. officer would be fired, and assuring that Karl Rove and other senior aides to President Bush had nothing to do with the disclosure, the White House on Monday refused to answer any questions about new evidence of Mr. Rove's role in the matter.
With the White House silent, Democrats rushed in, demanding that the administration provide a full account of any involvement by Mr. Rove, one of the president's closest advisers, turning up the political heat in the case and leaving some Republicans worried about the possible effects on Mr. Bush's second-term agenda.
Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic leader, cited Mr. Bush's statements about firing anyone involved in the leak and said, "I trust they will follow through on this pledge."
Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, said Mr. Rove, given his stature and the principles involved in the case, could not hide behind legal advice not to comment.
"The lesson of history for George Bush and Karl Rove is that the best way to help themselves is to bring out all the facts, on their own, quickly," Mr. Schumer said, citing the second-term scandals that have beset previous administrations.

I think you are right. Luring varmits into the trap is tricky business.
" But I have to say that McClellan was ridiculously pathetic and should have shot back at the press corps."
If the WH had a stronger, more confident spokesman many of these media manipulated firestorms would be snuffed out in the beginning.
The out of control press corps has been using McClellan as their punching bag from day one and the WH appears completely helpless to change that dynamic.
The Times knows that. They are trying to nullify it, or at the very least neuter his administration. If W appoints Teddy Kennedy to the Supreme Court, they'll just call the whole thing off.
Well....it gets the nomination of Supreme Court candidates off the front pages......Rove et al are brilliant
This is blaten yellow journalism retaliation for the pathetic lies of the reporters.
The spy was KNOWN the only people who did not know must have been the NYT.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/993741/posts?page=222 a compilation.
the real story is not this third rate badly kept non-secret. The real story is the NYT is making up stores AGAIN.
The NYT is the story NOT Rove. The only thing the NYT can do is simply close its doors, it serves no function. A cheep romance novel published 30 years ago is more up todate and truthful than the NYT.
Oh how could you forget "The Downing Street Memos".......
That was the sure fire double throwdown ticket to impeachment........LOL !!!!
Let the media do their thing. Its going to make so much more sweeter, when no one from the WH gets indictied. Seriously, they are going to have so much egg on thier face, like they have had in the past.
This will blow over once Fitzy has finished his case, and will be old news just like the downing street memo or torture photos.
The more fuss the MSM makes now, is the more stupid they will look.
The only thing I would asked for people here, is when the prosecuter finishes his case and NO ONE gets indicited, we should ask the media to say sorry to Rove, not before hand , but after.
That is going to be a great day.
best post ever, this is great, let all media go after Rove, the more the merrier, its when Rove is found to have done nothing wrong by the special prosecuter, is when the media will look like complete idiots to the public, yes indeed, rope a dope, and with liberals its quite easy.
They just can't stand it. "W" won reelection. He's in until January 2009 so all you whiney, sick-o libs get used to it.
McCellan was perfect, if he had of shot back, they would fo said, "OH hes been really defensive, what is he up to" Heck he told them over twenty times he wasnt going answer the question, who picks the white house press core anyway???????????????
This is the brillance of Bush, Cheney, and Rove this adminstration is the brightest we have ever had, they know what we are doing and this case might end up being a turning point for the media, when Rove in innocent, no one will ever dare try to write anything bad about Bush, well apart from those wimpy french losers.
Heaven forbid that the NY Times would let the facts get in the way of a good story.......
Hahahha the downing street memo, boy that was forgotton about quick, it made the news for about three days, and nothing could be proven, now they are usuing Rove, when rove falls flat they will make up something else, I guess the left just love to lie, who knows why?
If it wasn't so coarse and laden with BS, the NY Times would make great toilet paper.
Great analogy :)
Err, no. The best press spokesman in the world keeps from doing two very important things: He never sticks his foot in his mouth, and he never, ever gives the opposition any ammunition to hunt with.
All of Bush's press spokesmen have done their jobs perfectly. It's no wonder the seething, idiot Leftists are in a lather over it.
Sounds like a little revenge to me. THe NYT isn't happy about he election results and now they have to pay the legal bills for an incompetent reporter who is sitting in jail to avoid telling the truth. Why not blame Rove? Its not like he can prove that the NYT lied about the whole thing and get anybody to print the truth.
Does anyone know if the NYT even ran the a piece about how the soldiers and guards were treated by the enemy @ Gitmo?
Anyone know if that applies?
