Across the pond, the British Broadcasting Corporation is taking well-deserved lumps for whitewashing the 7/7 terrorist attacks in London. Editors have reportedly expunged the word "terrorist" from the BBC website and substituted the sanitized "bomber" to describe the killers.
Next: "Burglars" will be "takers." "Child molesters" will be "ticklers." "Rapists" will be "unplanned lovers."
High-minded BBC guidelines admonish employees against using words like "terrorist" that "carry emotional or value judgments." Yet, employing a reporter, Barbara Plett, who told viewers she bawled her eyes out when an ailing Yasser Arafat was whisked off to France in November 2004, is model objectivity.
But bashing the terror-coddling BBC is too easy. Let us turn to our own language corrupters

I would add to Michelle's list, if we are serious we would be holding tribunals and exectutions at GITMO. There was a lot of talk about doing so after 9-11. When Bush's term ended without a single one it was obvious that there never would be any. PC won't allow it. Not even for Kalil Sheik Mohammed who ws directly responsible for planning 9-11. Nope, we'll just hold them until some liberal Democrat gets elected President and lets them go.

Everyone should. And I mean *everyone*. In the book, "Ingsoc" (English Socialism) has prevailed in the Western world. Michelle Malkin is making a reference to the concept in the book known as "Newspeak".
Big Brother (the ironic name for the ultra-oppressive government which pretends to "look after and protect" the public) was pushing "Newspeak" as the new, accepted language. On page 45, the protagonist (Winston Smith) is talking to an acquaintance, Syme, who is working on the new edition of the Newspeak dictionary:
[Syme:] "You think, I dare say, that our chief job is inventing new words. But not a bit of it! We're destroying words -- scores of them, hundreds of them, every day. [...] It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. [...] In your heart you'd prefer to stick to Oldspeak, with all its vagueness and its useless shades of meaning. You don't grasp the beauty of the destruction of words. [...] Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.
