Come clean(liberal Sun's re-write of Demos Wilson/Plame Scandle)
Baltimore Sun ^ | July 13, 2005

SO, WHAT Washington suspected all along turns out to be true. Karl Rove, political mastermind of the Bush administration, tried to squelch a report that undermined President Bush's rationale for going to war in Iraq by secretly discrediting the critic who wrote it. A nasty tactic in any circumstances. But one that could have been dangerous, even deadly, in this case because it resulted in the outing of a CIA undercover agent.

Whether Mr. Rove can be charged with a crime has not yet been determined by the special prosecutor investigating the leak. But it's clear that while Mr. Rove may have stayed within the letter of the law, he certainly violated its spirit, as well as the supposedly high standards of conduct the White House has said the president sets for his staff.

Mr. Rove, now deputy chief of staff, should resign or be fired. Dismissal was the fate Mr. Bush and spokesman Scott McClellan said a year or more ago would await anyone in the administration who unmasked an undercover operative. Mr. McClellan also had dismissed Mr. Rove's involvement as a "ridiculous suggestion." This week, though, the White House is suddenly silent on the subject, with Mr. McClellan sounding, with his stonewalling at press briefings, for all the world like his Nixon-era predecessor, Ron Ziegler.

Two years have passed since the intrigue unfolded following the disclosure by former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV that he had investigated and found no basis for the claim that Iraq had sought to obtain nuclear materials in Africa - one of the administration's reasons for going to war.

The liberal press has been re-writing this story. Instead of asking Wilson why his wife Plame got him the job (a anti-war Kerry activist) and then claiming it was instead Cheney who recommended him , the lying SUN libs claim that:

1) Rove committed treason 2) if not that, he committed perjury 3) if not that, it was unethical to point out that Plame worked at CIA(SUN not pointing out her role in setting up Bush) 4) if not that, it looks like Bush is breaking a blank promise to fire Rove, and now Rove must quit.

Note that the story is always told in this order to maker Rove look the worst.

Hey Balt Sun, you may want to wait for the final Fitzgerald report and get the facts before you jump to conclusions. You will regret it in the end. And I am looking forward to it.

Everyone already knew that Rove tried to discredit Wilson. This isn't news. The only thing that's "news" is the story that is NOT true, namely that Rove outted a spy.

...and now Rove must quit.

How long do you think it will be before they demand his beheading?

She was not "outed" and she had not been undercover for years. This is a big deal only to the wonks that operate under rocks within the Washington beltway. Out here in real America we are more concerned with the war on terror, intrusion of big government, property taxes run amok and the simple things in life like vacations, picnics, family, etc. Screw the liberal press...

The News story here is why was a CIA employee actively conspiring with her husband to bring down a sitting president with and was not, at least fired, if not actually prosecuted.

AND, she hadn't been a "spy" for over 9 years.
Left the CIA field overseas after the REAL
outing of all many agents around the world...
she then settled into a nice comfy office in
D.C.

Outing Plume is the like as outing Richard Simmons.

Why arent't they calling for Kerry to quit since he actually did out a covert CIA agent?

That first sentence says it all.

The libs admit that they think Karl Rove is working in some super secret laboratory in the bowels of the White House in a white lab coat, concocting ways to smite them.

The modern American liberals are seriously delusional.

bill press was on Hannity & Colmes last night and some orderlys should have taken him away the way he was ranting and raving.

But you don't know that. All you know is the public spin. But no one outside of government knows when she was classified as covert and when she wasn't.

I think Tenet would have known when she stopped being a covert agent, though. And I don't see why he would have ordered an investigation if he knew that her service as a covert agent was beyond the statutory time frame.

The important issue here is that Rove did not disclose that she was covert. He only mentioned that she worked for the CIA, which was public info anyway. It's one thing to say that someone works for the CIA, another thing to say that they are a covert agent. The latter is illegal, the former is not.

In fact, Rove did not even know she was covert.

Didn't a US Senator (or at least Rep.) disclose the name of some undercover agents that resulted in the deaths of people in the field?

Never saw the press get worked up over that. Then again, they are the types who agree with this sentiment:

Oh, but don't question their patriotism.

IT WAS ALREADY LONG PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE THIS WOMAN WAS CIA BEFORE THE REPORT IN QUESTION... how does one LEAK something that is already public knowledge?

This "scandal" is the dumbest thing I've heard since Kerry trying to argue that we had to be more understanding of the terrorists.

Baloney. Wilfull distortion of the facts. Rove told Cooper (Mr. Mandy Gruenwald, Clinton capo) not to report that Cheney appointed Wilson (a Democratic operative, see his resume) to go to Niger because it was not true. Cheney did not appoint Wilson. We know now that Plame put forward his name.

Exactly how is it trying to discredit Wilson(which was easy enough to do) to point out to a reporter (even one as compromised as Cooper) that a basic fact of an upcoming story is wrong?

Orwellian logic permits the left to rewrite history with impunity. When hardcopy papers are finally eliminated, rewrites will be much easier to push past the public.

It already happens with online "errors" (like embedding insults in photo filenames or saying that Bush owned the Houston Astros and built a stadium for his "buddy" Ken Lay's Enron).

Classic misdirection. "Don't look into the background of that critic, the words ring true even if the evidence is false." (DU chorus defending Dan Ratherbiased)
