UK: Far right and football gangs plot 'revenge'

Far right and football gangs plot 'revenge'

Police monitor anti-Muslim websites Hugh Muir Friday July 15, 2005

Guardian Plans by an alliance of rightwing extremists and football hooligans to exact "revenge" on Muslims after last week's bomb attacks are being monitored by police.

The Guardian has learned that extremists are keen to cause widespread fear and injury with attacks on mosques and high-profile "anti-Muslim" events in the capital.

Football hooligans communicating over the internet have spoken of the need to put aside partisan support for teams and unite against Muslims. Hooligans from West Ham, Millwall, Crystal Palace and Arsenal are among those seeking to establish common cause.

As part of wider plans to generate a backlash, rightwing groups such as the Nationalist Alliance and the National Front are said to be planning marches. Extremists hope to hold a march along Victoria Embankment in London tomorrow.

It is also known that many mosques have received bomb threats since the attacks.

Attempts by the right to make capital out of the tragedy have created a powderkeg. Already extremist Islamist websites have told Muslims to be ready to retaliate.

The BNP has sought to capitalise on the atrocities by reproducing a picture of the bombed No 30 bus with the headline "Maybe Now It's Time To Listen To The BNP" in its byelection literature in Barking, Essex.

The tactic prompted cross-party condemnation. Though it was designed to increase support for the far-right, many believe the message may have been too crass and too badly timed to work. The party does, however, enjoy some support in the area.

Gerry Gable, of the anti-fascist organisation Searchlight, said: "There is no doubt that the far-right are playing this for all they think it is worth. If you look at the BNP website there's Nick Griffin saying 'be calm' and other material saying 'don't get angry, get even!'"

He added: "These things should be taken seriously. One site, Blood and Honour, had a posting about a mosque in the Wirral and soon after the mosque was hit. Soon after, the posting was taken down."

The police have pledged to crack down on any attempts to provoke division in the aftermath of the bombs. Members of Scotland Yard's independent advisory group have been asked to liaise with borough commanders in the capital to reassure the public and make sure the police carry out their pledges. The Met has said from the outset that the bombs were an attack on all communities and that none should be scapegoated.

The synergy between rightwing extremists and football hooligans is not new. Throughout the 1980s, some of the biggest clubs in Britain were plagued by notoriously violent and racist followers.

Though virtually all clubs have since challenged the behaviour of extremist fans, and almost all now belong to the Kick Racism Out of Football initiative, violent followers continue to communicate with each other and supporters from other clubs to engineer confrontations.

The prospect of the opening day Championship fixture between Leeds and Millwall in August is already causing concern.

Hooliganism, it's not just for Eid anymore.

In his book "The Abolition Of Britain" Peter Hitchens made a dire - but I believe spot on - prediction: The British can only be pushed so far away from the long time historical norm. Inevitably, if they are pushed too far, a correction will ensue. People forget about this aspect of the British (and, for that matter, their "offspring" - namely - us). It has been a long while since the last time it happened (Cromwell). And when it does happen again, it is likely to be shocking.

I think we need to send over a battalion of our own sports drunks to help out.

Heh. They would just get in the way. American sports fans compare in absolutely no way to British football hooligans. The hooligans make Raiders home game regulars look like Jehovah's Witnesses...JFK

I agree. I think we are in for a future of Cromwells.

Just give them small nudges lads, their outrage over the least insult will continue to mark their evil and help bring them down.

Without seeing the any evidence from the Guardian to support these allegations of impending violence I am not going to accept the validity of their claims. What I do find REALLY disturbing is the blanket support for such action in the postings I am reading here. Before getting behind Klan like behavior on the part of the the British version of Good Old Boys, think hard about what you are advocating.

Gee, you mean to tell me that tying some yellow ribbons around trees, putting cute little bows on our cars and having two moments of silence is not enough to appease the widows and orphans caused by the Muslim cult? Perhaps the football fans can demonstrate to all those with "a good heart" just how this little problem can be solved.

Yeah, it's the "right" that's making capital out of the tragedy. Never mind the filth that CAUSED the tragedy ...

Already extremist Islamist websites have told Muslims to be ready to retaliate.

"Retaliate" against what? The retaliation? Let me get this straight: they murder a few dozen innocent civilians, then take umbrage when pissed off citizens do the same to them?

No civilized society should have to tolerate these subhumans amongst them, any more than a healthy body should have to tolerate syphillis.

Send us Cubs fans over. We haven't won anything in so long we have a lot of frustration built up.

An attack here like 911 or the English bombing

Where is 'here'?

The British elite have only themselves to blame if there's any sort of populist rightwing "backlash". For decades they've been doing everything in their power to subvert and destroy genuine English patriotism in favor of multi-ethnic atomization. They're seeing the fruits of that successful effort now, in Islamic separatism and terror on the one hand, and football hooligan type jingoism on the other. The same thing will happen here if the liberal campaign to de-Americanize the US isn't reversed.

Yes, when is Britain going to have the honesty to admit that the grand social experiment to create a new society by mass Moslem immigration has been a huge failure with fatal consequences? I am beginning to think that the secret objective of the leftist socialists was perpetual conflict between social groups that possess mutually exclusive goals.

Very good analogy.  Sounds like a tagline just waiting to be used!

Their "multi-ethnic atomization" also destroys their simple, common sense in that these Muslim murderers just walked onto the subway with a giant backpack strapped on their backs (see picture on Drudge).

Hello? Anyone home? Young, Muslim male with a big backback (looks pretty oversized like a camping or hiking one and not a school type bag) entering subway!! HELLO??
