It isn't nice to fiddle with God's design for human procreation.
These pills and patches only encourage promiscuity and carelessness, IMO and should be greatly discouraged. Instead, they're promoted heavily in magazines and on TV. Saw a commercial for this particular patch a few months ago - at 7pm - on a Sunday - on regular network TV.
Amen - well said!
I don't ever worry about people hearing ALL the information they need to make informed decisions about anything.
Telling a woman that pregnancy might relieve an ongoing medical problem doesn't mean they're going to rush out and get pregnant for their health. It could be a factor in deciding whether to have surgery or just put up with the pain until she's ready to start a family. Either way, it is information the woman is entitled to have.
I didn't know I had a teenage daughter. Thanks for telling me.
"But his post is such a beautiful exposition of what artificial contraception does to a relationship. It reduces sex, in the man's eyes, to something the woman is expected to provide for him on a 24/7 basis ... while, in the woman's eyes, it turns sex in to something she can use as a weapon to control him. Instead of being an expression of love, it's a tool for control and a bargaining chip in the relationship.
And you know how I know that? Because I was there, and I did that. It nearly wrecked my marriage."
Sorry to hear that and glad you found a solution, but some of us guys do have some self-control and some women aren't so controlling that they use sex as a weapon.
BUMP to your comments.
Its not only "your opinion"...its the truth.
"I don't have a problem with birth control of any kind. If anyone has concerns about chemicals, don't use them. If you want to go NFP, great.
What concerns me are those that want to ban artificial contraceptives."
I'm stunned that this thread hasn't been visited yet by the Freeper crowd that contends that ANY attempt to avoid pregnancy is just as sinful as same-gender sex.
People were using condoms 3000 years ago. Women in the Tudor court used herbal birth control. And I wager coitus interuptus has been around since we figured out what caused babies.
Promiscuity has also been around forever. I don't think someone who does not wish to sleep around is going to go out and do it because of the pill. Fear of pregnancy may stop a few occasionally, but not too many.
Thank you for the history lesson, but people were also wiping their butts with their hands 3000 years ago.
Self-control, and respect for self are universal.
>>I don't think someone who does not wish to sleep around is going to go out and do it because of the pill. Fear of pregnancy may stop a few occasionally, but not too many.<<
Pre-marriage pregnancies, (and subsequent rates of abortion - more usage also equals more failure), and cases of increased STD's have been on the rise since the heavy promotion of The Pill started in the 70's. This is no mere coincidence.
The notion of consequence-free sex is a heavy undertone, and sometimes rather overt, message of all birth-control promotion, be it condom, pill, or patch. Why are they so heavily promoted for their "convenience" benefits, if the ultimate goal isn't sexual "freedom"? It's quick, it's easy, just slap it on and forget about it! Janie's now Open For Business!
A relative of mine recently told me she placed her daughter on the Pill because, "It's better to be safe than sorry". What kind of lame-assed parenting is that? I'd venture to guess that particular attitude is more the rule, rather than the exception. Heavily increased teen promiscuity rates will attest to that.
ACADEMIC career??????? Sheesh. He was a physician, doing research on people, and he falsified data in order to support his goals. The man's medical license should have been permanently revoked. And yet, he is working for a pharmaceutical company that has an interest in putting out research information that supports the approval and production of their product. It is insane.
In the "advanced" land of the Islamofascists, they still use that method!

You are most welcome. We historians love our factoids!
I am all for self respect but I am also all for sex (in marriage). I'm all for making sex within marriage easy. (It's hard enough for hubby and I to find time when we are mutually in the mood and actually in the same room!) I'm also not all for having 15 kids (unless you want them and can pay for them). I know NFP can work but I don't want to use it.
I just think self control and self respect come from within and from God. If you were going to be loose, maybe the pill makes it easier but I bet you'd find a way without it. I don't want to take it away from those who aren't screwing around just because some do.
I don't see where you're getting the impression of hostility.
>>I know NFP can work but I don't want to use it.<<
Such is your choice. Pray tell, though - why not? Is it a convenience issue?
>>I don't want to take it away from those who aren't screwing around just because some do.<<
I think it's more than "some" - I'd venture to say "most" (unmarried women), considering how it's marketed to them.
Nowhere am I advocating that it be taken away. I'm advocating that the heavy-duty promotion of it cease. It's currently promoted as a safety-net to encourage promiscuity - and as I said, those statistics can attest to the marketing campaign's effectiveness.
Personally, I think ingesting chemicals into your body which ultimately trick your body into thinking it's pregnant, all the while allowing the "flushing out" of fertilized embryos is morally repugnant. But, to each his own, I suppose.
I believe that fertility, pregnancy, and children are a gift from the Lord, and are not to be trifled with for convenience sake.
I don't understand why married people wouldn't want to use natural methods of family planning BUT I sure do understand why single people don't like it.
Thank you for that information.
Too much information Sir.
