IFC & Drawing Center to be Reconsidered July 15th, 2005 In what can only be described as a major victory in the fight to get the IFC and the Drawing Center off the site at Ground Zero, the LMDC has announced they are looking for alternative sites for the two cultural centers. However, in making that announcement, LMDC Board Chairman John Whitehead immediately downplayed the expectation of finding another location.
The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, acknowledging protests by relatives of Sept. 11 victims, is taking one last look at alternatives to placing a museum of freedom and art museum adjacent to the planned memorial, foundation chairman John Whitehead said.

The International Freedom Center (say it with sarcasm) is an abomination and needs to be stopped. Here's a chance to do it.
E-Mail the LMDC and give 'em your thoughts. I did a short while ago. I told 'em that the IFC in an awful idea. I said that although I'm sure there is a place for self-loathing and white liberal guilt, Ground Zero is not that place!
C'mon, we can do this! There are many of us out there. Let's be heard on this.
BTW, sign the online petition at htp://www.takebackthe memorial.com too.
Sorry folks. I got over-excited about this and forgot to give you the link to contact the LMDC. Here it is:

this could be good news - I know that Pataki had spoken out against this, let's see the details, usually these NY "agency" creations answer to no one.
Thanks. I went there and submitted a message. I usually loathe giving my name and address, but in this case I deemed it worth it. We cannot let the International Freedom Center or art exhibit or whatever other politcal thing they have in mind make it to fruition.
I just cannot believe people have sunk so low as to do something like this to further their own politcal agenda.

Drawing Center Penciling Itself Out of Plans

It could be back to the drawing board for the controversial Drawing Center.
The edgy downtown museum has gone from preparing to move to Ground Zero, once construction there is complete, to considering pulling out of the site altogether, according to a published report.
The museum has been criticized by relatives of some 9/11 victims who say cultural displays---especially those critical of the United States---have no place at the hallowed site.
Catherine de Zegher, The Drawing Center's executive director, is waiting to hear from the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. about how much freedom the museum would have at the site.
"The LMDC knows we would never be able to accept censorship," she told Crain's New York.
The Drawing Center, one of four cultural institutions chosen a year ago to move to Ground Zero, was attacked last month over an exhibit at its SoHo gallery satirizing President Bush's "axis of evil" comments.
Another of the four, the Freedom Center, has been similarly criticized over programming plans deemed unpatriotic. But it has assured the LMDC that is content will not be un-American.
The Drawing Center's refusal to make such a promise has riled critics.
"We just want them to represent people who died that day," said Sonia Bonomo, whose daughter, Yvette, 30, perished on 9/11.
"The LMDC knows we would never be able to accept censorship," she told Crain's New York.
How telling. Usually, this is important because these people have not shown themselves in the past to be able to be appropriate and responsible.
To them, someone saying "Shhhh...." to them when they start spouting cusswords in a church is censorship.
KEEP UP THE PRESSURE, FOLKS!
Thank you for the update on this important issue.
any new information?
the proper place for the museum is clear to me - the New York Times building.

Sounds like a very promising start to getting rid of this atrocity. However, George Soros won't give up on the IFC without a fight. I'll bet he breaks out his reliable little sock puppets, Kristen Breitweiser and her Jersey Girls, to make the media rounds and tell us how all the "real" 9/11 families support the IFC and how the opposition to it is just more of Karl Rove's evil.
Thank you for the optimistic news--keep up the pressure!
I still can't get my local media to cover it though. My emails go unanswered, my phone calls get messages taken and no follow up.
