Al-Qaida's U.S. nuclear targets

Al-Qaida's prime targets for launching nuclear terrorist attacks are the nine U.S. cities with the highest Jewish populations, according to captured leaders and documents.

As first revealed last week in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, the premium, online intelligence newsletter published by the founder of WND, Osama bin Laden is planning what he calls an "American Hiroshima," the ultimate terrorist attack on U.S. cities, using nuclear weapons already smuggled into the country across the Mexican border along with thousands of sleeper agents.

The series of attacks is designed to kill 4 million, destroy the economy and fundamentally alter the course of history.

At least two fully assembled and operational nuclear weapons are believed to be hidden in the United States already, according to G2 Bulletin intelligence sources and an upcoming book, "The al-Qaida Connection: International Terrorism, Organized Crime and the Coming Apocalypse," by former FBI consultant Paul L. Williams.

The cities chosen as optimal targets are New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston and Washington, D.C. New York and Washington top the preferred target list for al-Qaida leadership.

Osama bin Laden and nuclear weapons

by Wm. Robert Johnston
last updated 22 September 2002

Al Qaeda's interest in nuclear weapons has been a recent topic of discussion and a highly relevant one. There is little hard data addressing the question of how close bin Laden's organization is to a nuclear weapons capability. What little data there is has sometimes been misrepresented in media reports. Thus, this review may be useful.

Al Qaeda's Nuclear Program: Through the Window of Seized Documents

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/1657901.stm

Al-Qaeda nuclear plans confirmed

The United States has confirmed that documents found in a Kabul building believed to have been used as a safe house by Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network contained details about how to produce nuclear weapons.

US Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge said the information could have been found on the internet and it did not mean Bin Laden was able to build a nuclear device.

We have to be prepared for all eventualities, including a nuclear threat

Tom Ridge, US Homeland Security Director"Much of that information could have been taken right off the internet some years ago. So there is nothing unusual about that information," said Mr Ridge.

It comes after Britain's Times newspaper said one of its reporters found the papers, which were partly burned, as the city was taken over by Northern Alliance fighters.

Mr Ridge said their discovery was consistent with statements made by Bin Laden - the main suspect in the 11 September suicide hijackings - that he wanted to acquire a nuclear capability.

The documents explained how to detonate explosives to compress plutonium and trigger a thermonuclear reaction.

They were in Arabic, German, Urdu and English.

This is what I send G2 bulletins with. The message is generally "I'm playing through".

My plan for what? Border security? Beef up the Border Patrol, fence off popular cross areas, UAVs and helicopters in the rougher spots. Horses, dirt bikes, and 4x4s for agents, and gadgets that will let each agent download the video feed of a certain UAV for when illegals are spotted.

You seem to think my disdain for WND's cheap readership ploy means I'm one of those open border nutjobs.

Los Angeles: Streisand, Spielberg...just those 2 would constitute a large Jewish population. But, talk about biting the hands that feed you.

My dad says there are satellites that can detect nuclear weapons - that's how we know how many say Russia, India, Pakistan, etc. have .... doesn't anyone think that they'd aim those at the US to see where they'd be?

Regards,
j

That's not exactly true.Sublaunched & weapons buried under deep earth are not easy to detect via satellites & count. The most accurate methods to determine N-numbers still used is to estimate the amount of enriched uranium or plutonium that a countries reactors produce & the time taken to make weapons using it.If you look at most websites, they give estimates(40-60,450-550).

“12th imam Operation” a Multiple Nuclear Attack
by Curt Weldon/ July 16, 2005
Not long after 9/11, Congressman Weldon found himself on the front lines of the War on Terror, enmeshed in international intrigues with spies and killers. He learned about plots to assassinate world figures (including a former U.S. President) and of a plot to kill hundreds of thousands of Americans by radiation poisoning. Ultimately, he would discover a still more audacious plot -- one that is still unfolding. It's a plan to inflict a terrorist attack on the United States -- an attack of such catastrophic dimensions that it is code-named after Shi'ite Islam's 12th imam: the prophet of doom who ushers in the Islamic apocalypse, rewarding the faithful and, with appalling violence, purging all infidels from the face of the Earth.
[Weldon explains] how the 12th Imam operation could paralyze the whole nation and end with the death of two-thirds of our people by slow starvation. http://www.falange.us/countdown.htm

"They have a rather short shelf life if not continually maintained."

I see people claiming this, but I have yet to see anyone provide support for the claim. Missiles, yes, the fuel system (potentially) requires maintenance. Warheads? Aside from the fissionable materials, the rest of a nuke is readily maintained especially if you don't care about the tricky timing mechanisms, targeting hardware, sensors, or anything other than the bang.

Plutonium (Pu239) has a half-life of about 24,000 years, so a cold war era warhead will have lost about .05 % of its potential bang.

And the amount of plutonium required is quite easily carried by a single person (I won't actually mention the quantity, but the information is easily obtained on the web). Plutonium is an alpha emitter, and alpha particles can be stopped by a sheet of paper. Minimal shielding would be required. Besides, if you are planning to die for the cause, what difference does it make if it is by cancer or nuclear detonation? Plutonium gets really dangerous only when inhaled or ingested.

I'd really like to see some supporting evidence that nukes have short shelf lives, because my experience leads me to conclude otherwise.

I've read that suitcase style bombs go bad because the emitted radiation destroys the electronics over time.

These tiny nukes use tritium. The half life is a few years.

Tritium based nukes would need fuel replenishment, but that really isn't any more difficult than replenishing the coolant in your refrigerator or air conditioner - if you have the tritium.

Tritium isn't all that hard to get, either. It has many commercial uses and is commonly available.

As far as the electronics on the bomb go, there isn't much to it if all you care about is the bang. Easy to repair or replace.

But I don't think the terrorists are going to waste time with nuclear hand grenades. If they had 'em they would have used 'em.

The only reason for holding off from using the nukes would be for a more spectacular attack, and that makes suitcase nukes a waste of time when there is a much bigger bang for the buck available.

I still think somebody wanted it to be hard to keep nukes in working order and made a statement to that effect, wanting and wishing it to be so. And other people who also wanted it to be true bought into it and kept passing it around until it achieved the status of urban legend. And that is what I think it is - an urban legend. I'd really like it if someone could convince me otherwise, but it hasn't happened yet.

It ain't quite as easy as putting oil in your car's engine. There is not a little cap labeled "add tritium here." Lithium hydride, a solid, is precision machined into the bomb material.
