With each passing day, the manufactured "scandal" over the publication of Valerie Plame's relationship with the CIA establishes new depths of mainstream-media hypocrisy. A highly capable special prosecutor is probing the underlying facts, and it is appropriate to withhold legal judgments until he completes the investigation over which speculation runs so rampant. But it is not too early to assess the performance of the press. It's been appalling.
Is that hyperbole? You be the judge. Have you heard that the CIA is actually the source responsible for exposing Plame's covert status? Not Karl Rove, not Bob Novak, not the sinister administration cabal du jour of Fourth Estate fantasy, but the CIA itself? Had you heard that Plame's cover has actually been blown for a decade i.e., since about seven years before Novak ever wrote a syllable about her? Had you heard not only that no crime was committed in the communication of information between Bush administration officials and Novak, but that no crime could have been committed because the governing law gives a person a complete defense if an agent's status has already been compromised by the government?
No, you say, you hadn't heard any of that. You heard that this was the crime of the century. A sort of Robert-Hanssen-meets-Watergate in which Rove is already cooked and we're all just waiting for the other shoe or shoes to drop on the den of corruption we know as the Bush administration. That, after all, is the inescapable impression from all the media coverage. So who is saying different?

(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
Wilson outed Plame in the foreward of his book. Plame outed herself in a makeout session on her second date with Wilson.
PD is definitely right. This Rove BS is all about tainting Bush to prevent him from effectively naming and fighting for a Supreme Court nominee.
bttt
For some odd reason .. the media doesn't bring up that little part of history
Take note the lib talking heads .. they keep trying to harp and push that the President can't be trusted line
Either way, the liberals are wrong about the Plame "scandal" and Bush will get whatever nominee he chooses. That's only if the Republicans agree. If the Dummycrats filibuster, the Constitutional Option will come into play, Cheney will be there if a tie-breaker becomes necessary.
The investigation in the Plame case will yield the truth and shut the media up for a while. This is gonna be the nail in the coffin for the MSM, they've been leading the "misinformed" public on too many wild goose chases for long enough.
I think the Supreme Court nominee partially explains it, but the 2006 congressional elections are another big factor. Rove has done a great job in helping the GOP maintain control of the House and Senate, much to the chagrin on the Democrats. The Dems want him out of the picture at the next election - that is a key part of their strategy to regain control.
Estrich had it right. This is political summer fun for everyone.
And to make Rove radioactive in future GOP elections.
McCarthy is too cute by half. It seems certain that the CIA initiated a number of small screw-ups that outed Valerie Plame well before Novak's column. However, no one really noticed because she was so insignificant, and, had found a desk job in Washington. When Novak called the CIA to vet his prospective article the Agency did not warn him off Plame, and that call can be checked on their records.
There is something that has been missing throughout the course of the Fitzgerald investigation. What began as a simple investigation into an "outing" has obviously evolved into something else. It is hard to say what, but his targeting (and the judge's acquiescence in that targeting) of certain journalists leads one to wonder if we don't have a new Dan Rathergate brewing. Wilson could easily be the new Texas fruitcake, his wife the mysterious woman who passed documents and then disappeared. Miller/Kristof of the NYTimes could be Mary Mapes/CBS producers.
Then again, it could all be a tempest in a teapot. However, Fitzgerald is convinced that Miller blew his investigation of the Holy Land Foundation, and it may simply be a case of a former prosecutor seeking revenge.
NOW its the CIA...who next???? Oh I know.....Putin, he did it...he didn't like her spying in his country so he pulled her identity and whaaaalaaaa....how's that for a story???
Just as good as what the msm is trying to feed us...lmao...
Another good article from National Review.
And a thinly veiled attempt to weaken his influence in the midterm elections next year. I doubt it will work, though.
And .. daily the lies and more lies get exposed.
At this rate .. the democrats will be out of credibility in 2006 .. where they will lose even more elections .. and by 2008 .. NO DEMOCRAT WILL BE ABLE TO WIN BACK THE WH.
The American people do not want a vengeful, mean-spirited group of lying, cheating, corrupt bunch of people ruling over them. The dems don't get it and that's why they'll lose.
