You have just made an observation that is both obvious and brilliant. I used to enjoy pressers run by Ari the same way I would watch a sword fight starring Errol Flynn. Whereas, with poor Scott, I turn the things off, usually. You have what Robert Frost called, "a ken eye for the obvious."

Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Bush nominate an unexpected. He has been known to play poker . . . . . .

By reputation, the President was a very avid and skillful poker player when he was an MBA student. One of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand. This is a pattern of behavior one sees repeatedly in George W. Bush’s political career. He is not one to loudly proclaim his strengths at the beginning of a campaign. Instead, he bides his time, does not respond forcefully, a least at first, to critiques from his enemies, no matter how loud and annoying they get. If anything, this apparent passivity only goads them into making their case more emphatically.

It's inevitably Cheney. I can prove it beyond the shadow of a doubt, and with geometric logic. Cheney must have helped W with the list of potential nominees. At last, Cheney had to have admitted that the best candidate is Congressman Billybob, at which point the President would have agreed there's none better, except V-P Dick Cheney himself. Then wah-la! The overhead light goes on.
It puts the best man on the bench, positions Condi for 2008 (she replacing Cheney) and gets Karl off the griddle.
Additional bonuses: Dems have apoplectic fits, media runs out of ink.

Can you imagine the total panic here, if "W" had to pick more then about 3 of the Supreme Court Justices....many are panicking as it is......

Graham also said the the nominee is a conservative...a solid conservative to be exact...whatever that means..

Graham has reason to root for a solid conservative to be confirmed. He's in hot water with his base over his stupid stunt regarding the constitutional option. He dearly hopes they'll be happy with the identity of the new justice so he can take credit for saving the senate without sacrificing a great SC justice.

The only reason I can't believe that is that if any Dems had a heads up, it would have leaked already.

Rush said she registered to vote for GORE! Interesting. That must mean she never voted before 2000?

OR... Did she vote twice, once under both names?

I find all of the speculation on the SCOTUS nominee to be absolutely hilarious. As if anyone really has a clue what the President will do! GWB is very good at keeping his cards close to the vest.

Also, the President doesn't necessarily have to make the announcement himself, although I would be surprised if he didn't. FDR sent the nomination of Senator Hugo L. (for liberal) Black (the opposite of his white KKK robe) directly to the Senate, where it was read aloud. Wouldn't you just LOVE the sight of Vice President Cheney reading aloud the name of an absolutely died-in-the-woll conservative-originalist who would send the Left into absolute hysteria while he was looking right at Pat Leahy?

BTW the graphic that FNC is using for Edith Brown Clement makes her look like a Holbein painting.
