I think Asa is damaged goods. The fact that he has not won statewide office AND the fact that he may be also confused with his brother are also negative factors. His lack of money compared to WPR was also a factor. Win Paul has proven in every contest that he could prevail. I speak as one who initially backed Asa over Win Paul. I'm hoping we can entice another candidate into the race over Asa. Hell, even Jay Dickey would be an improvement (or Rep. John Boozman). The 'Rats have already coronated one-term wonder AG Mike Beebe for the office.
I was wanting to vote Win Rock over Asa in the nomination but not really campaign for him. At least there shouldn't be a big nomination fight. I'm much more interested in Jim Holt winning the Lt. Governor race.
I suppose to be fair, no one was going to beat Dale Bumpers back then anyway, and who knows if anyone, sans Mike Hukabee, can beat Pyror or Lincoln now.
Sorry to hear about Win Rockefeller. Despite Asa's tin ear for the border, is he good on anything else?
