LOL!! Bush threw everyone off! It isn't a woman and it isn't a minority. This is a fabulous pick. Constitutionalist. Solid. Blocked by Democrats for years for the District court. Much symbolism.

Importantly for this White House, Judge Roberts is seen as jurist willing to extend the Executive Branch wide flexibility in both its conduct of general official business and the War on Terror.

This is more important than ANYTHING else. Bravo, Mr President.

John C. Roberts: Pro-Gun or Gun-Grabber?

I have't been able to find out where most of the potential nominees stood on the Second Ammendment. Anyone know where Roberts stands?

Bork is a brilliant man, but he'll be 79 in March.

Trust me the Buchananites and third party voters on FR will be rushing in to tell us this is the worst US Supreme Court nominee ever.

I'm looking forward to Ralph Neas and his fellow slimy weasels getting crushed in this battle. I sure hope it comes to a filibuster and that the Rs finally crush the Ds properly!!!

The liberal lawyer on MSNBC went ballistic when the name of this was announced. So this is good news. A good pick.

John G. Roberts, Jr. (D.C. Cir.)

Judge Roberts, 50, with his "youthful," "all-American good looks," is the "JFK Jr. of the federal bench." Judge Roberts is "young and extremely handsome."

Judge Roberts is a member of the Elect, having clerked for the renowned Judge Henry J. Friendly of the Second Circuit, followed by then-Associate Justice Rehnquist. His professional achievements, including over 30 Supreme Court arguments, are literally incredible; you can read about them here (and then go off and wallow in your own inferiority). Judge Roberts headed the appellate practice group at the white-shoe D.C. law firm of Hogan & Hartson, before his appointment by President Bush to the blindingly prestigious D.C. Circuit.

Hopeful bump.

Let's see if all the Bush bashers here now come out and apologize. This guy is much more conservative than I expected, and it keeps the Jones/Clement/Brown triumvirate open for the Rehnquist retirement, which would put all SORTS of pressure on the left to keep a second woman on there.
