ANN COULTER VS. JOHN ROBERTS

That is the real point of her article. The left-wing zealots have lied and cheated to drumbeat their propaganda long enough. Their monopoly of the information and education outlets for 45 years has created long columns of brainwashed clones.

Now the traitors can claim an extremist ACLU nutcase like Ruth Bader Ginsburg is acceptable and mainstream, but Robert Bork or even John Marshall or John Jay are all radical rightwing fanatics who are totally unacceptable.

This vicious destruction of truth and construction of the 'big lie' has taken years of concerted efforts by professional liars like the ACLU, the MSM, government schools, entertainment industry and the Democrat party. Now truth is turned on its head.

Ann Coulter was dead on target as usual.

This author has it wrong. Ann Coulter implied something very simple--Bush had a chance to nominate an originalist/Constitutionalist, and he did not.

Let's make this clear--Bush did NOT nominate Jones, Brown or Luttig, three absolute and total Constitutionalists.

You know what David Boises said when Sean Hannity asked him who he thought Roberts would most be like if nominated? Justice Breyer!

My thoughts exactly. People need to remember that the entire world has changed since Souter. Not only are Conservatives in an offensive position on nominations (with the Dems reduced to playing defense via filibuster), but Conservatives now have all sorts of VERY powerful channels with which to reach public opinion (talk radio and the internet - the former was in its infancy during Souter, the latter virtually nonexistant).

I'm sure that Ann is perfectly aware of her status as a real firebrand both inside and outside of Conservatism. I'm sure that she's also aware that the best way to get Roberts onto the court is to innoculate him from filibuster-justifying charges of right-wing extremism from the Left, rather than go all out in promoting him as a Conservative.

Attacking Roberts from the right, as you say essentially counters and kills the arguments coming out of MoveOn, NOW, NARAL, etc. At least with the general public.

So it might just all be a brilliant piece of political theater on her part. IMHO, the way to tell this, in this age of widespread Conservative information dissemination, is to see how many, and which, Conservative commentators follow in her path (call this the "Great Minds Think Alike" theory). Ann only being the first one to jump on an anti-Roberts bandwagon will be a good indicator that he's another Souter. If she's out there pretty much all alone, with only a few cohorts, it's a good indication that she's just doing an excellent job playing a role.

I'm amazed at the number of Kool-Aid drinkers on this thread attacking Ann and ignoring history and Roberts' vague resume. Ann recognizes the gravity of finding out the hard way that Roberts isn't conservative even though he clerked for Rehquist.

Even Rush is withholding judgement. In his tactful manner, he pointed out that Roberts is fond of the social scene in DC. This is after he explained that it is the desire to gain the approval of high society that pressures justices to make the "right" decisions.

You Kool-Aid drinkers don't have any proof that Roberts won't be a disappointment on the bench and that is Ann's point.

I want to know Roberts' allegience to stare decisis v. the constitution. Period.

Coulter is a borderline dolt. Okay, she is sometimes funny, but in the final analysis she is not well learned. Beyond this, she is a snobbish Bush basher!

All Freepers of education and breeding far prefer Victor Davis, who is a true intellectual powerhouse, deeply learned in history, philosophy, and constitutional law.

You know the leftists know what this guy eats for breakfast, so I doubt there's much stealth involved here. At least from their perspective. I hope El Presidente has not been hornswoggled.
