Durbin Throws Down the Gauntlet on Roberts, terms nominee "controversial" (D'ya think?)
ILLINOIS LEADER.COM ^ | JULY 19, 2005 | Staff Writer

Illinois' senior Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), the Assistant Democrat Leader in the U.S. Senate, has wasted little time in launching against Judge John Roberts, President Bush's choice for the Supreme Court slot being vacated by retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Durbin has said that the President's decision to put forward John Roberts, 50, who he termed a "controversial nominee" guarantees a "controversial nomination process."

Durbin previously clashed with Roberts during the confirmation process for the federal judgeship he now holds. Durbin questioned Roberts characterization of the Rehnquist Court as not necessarily conservative, saying that the the record of the court defied easy labels.

Durbin joined Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Ted Kennedy (D-MA) in voting against Roberts' ultimately successful appointment to the Appeals Court of the District of Columbia approximately two years ago.

Durbin has previously declared that any nominee that did not respect the Court's 1965 decision in Griswold v. Connecticut that created a person's right to privacy (the precursor to the Roe v. Wade decision) should be filibustered.

Hey Dick: Is Roberts controversial enough to compare American soldiers to the Khmer Rouge?

Dick Durbin himself is very controversial.

He should stay out of the public eye.

The Democrat Party's leadership is as predictably stupid, dangerous and opposed to this Nation's welfare and security --- as your typical Islamanazi Jihadist..

I mean that LITERALLY.....they've become allies to our enemy!

The Democrat party has been taken over by the enemy --- and have become the Enemy Within....

Unless the bastards are defanged, defunded, defeated and destroyed --- CWII can't be far away..

You know what I don't understand? For how many years did Democrat's have control... WHY did they not give the Griswold decision a legal backing?

Meaning, why not pass an amendment that actually SAYS Americans have a right to privacy? They could have gotten that through I think. Now they're stressing that the "right" could be taken away when it never should have been granted by the COURT to begin with.

I think that Turbin Durbin should visit Gitmo for "a tour". It would be nice to never see or hear from him again. An end most befitting such a traitorous maggot...

"created a person's right to privacy"

Since when did a court "create" a right? I thought they were God-given?

Traitor Durbin would be doing good to keep his mouth shut.

The far left RATS need a wakeup call. Pray that this clown gets voted out of power. If there are any decent democrats left they need to send a message to traitors like Turbin who insulted the entire US military, including members who happen to vote democrat.

Sometimes I wonder if there's a competitive most-odious-Senator honor thing at play between the states of Illinois, California, Massachusetts and New York.

Well put Rat -- they are THE ENEMY WITHIN !! The good part is that everyone, including the administration, knows it. They are thugs, trying to dismantle the U.S. from its Constitution, down through its legal system. They have to be "stopped".

Durbin is up for re-election in '06. Apparently he is already in trouble with Catholic voters. Opposition to Roberts could be the last straw.

"Controversial" = anything that impedes the express train of Marxist 'progress'.

They created a right that was not defined in the constitution. Whether you like it or not no such thing as a "right to privacy" ever existed in the Constitution. A right to "privacy" is a bugbear of the left and has come to mean much more than private behavior in your home. It now means the right to have a doctor kill your unborn baby. How is something that involves a publicly licensed Dr. a private matter? It could not be futher from the truth given all the regulations that govern medical practice that are accepted. A doctor can not prescribe you illegal medications, or perform procedures that you request that are deemed harmful. Also privacy rights have come to cover all forms of sexual deviance yet this right to privacy seems to have gone missing when it comes to truly important things like protecting your bank accounts and the money you earn. It is a just a code phrase for the left getting to do whatever they damn well please in public and in private.

Angering daley, Veterans, friends and families of military, the military itself couldn't have helped.

It's still Ilinois and he'd probably win. Even if he were vulnerable and I doubt there are enough non partisans that realize it's more important to kick a guy out who aids Al Quida than it is to have a Liberal in the Senate, it remains the Party in Illinois (GOP) is in shambles.
