It is impossible to renounce jihad against infidels without renouncing the teachings of Muhammad. Without Muhammad there is no Islam. This is the catch 22 of Islam.
It is those who renounce jihad against infidels who in reality have hijacked Muhammad's religion.

Islam is a totalitarian political movement as well as a religion, unfortunately. Turkey is the most democratic of islamic countries, but this should hardly inspire optimism. As the article notes:
