"He loves Specter, he can deal with it now."

Don't even get me started on that. And the worst part is that there are rumors that Specter's health may force him to resign (perhaps after the SC nomination hearings), and we'll have a Dem appointed by the governor to his seat. Toomey could have held that seat for several terms.

Yeah.. I read an article (in Slate, maybe?) that Mama T is on the warpath. She hates Santorum (she thinks he's corrupting the "legacy" of her beloved deceased husband.)

Having lived in rural Pennsylvania for 4 years, I can attest to its conservative leanings. Where is the support for the Dims coming from (other than metro Philly and Pittsburg)? Any idea?

This is one conservative vote Santorum will not get.

So you would prefer Casey?

Elections aren't about putting a perfect candidate in the office. They are about choosing which of the candidates will BEST represent your views and values.

You signed up to FR just to say something that stupid?

There's no accounting for (bad) taste.

Santorum is one of the best Senators out there. We really need him to win.

Maybe Santorum should, say, pass a dead fetus around the house for a few days and let everyone caress it... for inspiration, ya know?

Now that Christopher Reeve isn't around to eat them anymore, he should be able to find one.

2004 is water under the bridge.

The 2006 choice is a tax-n-spend Liberal Democrat versus the *only* conservative Republican Senator from the Northeast states of the US.

If you believe in saving endangered species, save Santorum!

Wake up, people. If Santorum loses it will be a death-blow to conservatism in the northeast.

See the D&G's have flocked to this thread with their black cloud comments on a poll over a year from the election. Heck the Tulsa World had Dr. Tom being beat by the twerp Carson a week before the election by a handy margin and Dr. Tom handed Carson a huge defeat.

Get out the grassroots and Casey will be defeated -- remember that Dean is head of DNC which bodes well for Republicans.

Pittsburgh is full of old Democrats with less than a high school education. We are the second oldest population in America. Most of these duffuses think that this Bob Casey is the old Bob Casey, pro-life democrat governor. It's his worthless son.

If you dumbed down the Pittsburgh population ant further, they would be French.

Casey is nothing but a Dem beard that they are using to try and cover their hideously ugly liberal (pro abortion) face.

For all those who cannot wait to punish Santorum....enjoy little lord Casey prancing about stages supporting the campaigns of Fast Eddie Slots Rendall and then then Hildebeast.

On the bright side, it is not over until it is over...and it (the campaign) has not even started yet...

Time to pay the piper, Rick.

Santorum chose Specter over a bona fide conservative, and many PA conservatives are still seething; we saw it as an opportunity to finally rid ourselves of Specter. No way I'll vote for Casey, but Santorum's not getting my vote either. We will hold the election - despite the polls - and Casey will win; name recognition is a big deal in PA.

Santorum's (and Bush's) endorsement of Specter may have been "pro forma" politically, but he made a bad call. Specter is very unpopular with conservatives in PA. Bush could distribute the negative impact of his endorsement of Specter and could affort to lose PA. Obviously, Santorum can not. Besides, we have to be willing to hold these guys' feet to the fire. Should Casey win, he will go the way of Harris Wofford. Remember him? - neither does anyone else.

So you are all for letting a Liberal Democrat win because you don't like ... Liberal Republicans?

Yeah, let's get the conservative circular firing squad up and running and get us back to a Democrat Congressional majority. I bet you can't wait for Hillary to run the G W Bush impeachment hearings!

Let's not forget that Pennsylvania was the only state in the northeast corridor that came close to going for Bush (and if you took out all of the illegal and fraudulent votes he might well have won it).

Casey is very popular in Pennsylvania and is a pro-life Democrat, a species about as close to extinction as the Panda.

Older pro-life Catholics like me who became Republicans during the Reagan era would support Casey's father for sainthood. He is the source of our deepest animosity toward Hillary Clinton.
Santorum is solidly pro-life but the previously mentioned schooling fiasco hurt him; his book is hurting him and he lacks a warm personality.
Casey can ride his father's coattails to victory.
I don't know why people are suggesting Santorum can get help focusing on Pittsburgh. It probably has the highest percentage of older white Catholic Democrats outside of Massachusetts.

Reagan Democrats.

Pro-life, pro-gun blue collar Democrats who saw old man Casey as one of them. These are the people who've given Santorum his statewide victories.

Junior is living off the name at this point. It remains to be seen if it'll stick.
