"Santorum chose Specter over a bona fide conservative, and many PA conservatives are still seething; we saw it as an opportunity to finally rid ourselves of Specter."

As someone who sent $$$ to Toomey to unseat Specter, and was sorely disappointed by Toomey's loss, I have this to say:

GET OVER IT ... Before your churlishness bites you in the butt.

"No way I'll vote for Casey, but Santorum's not getting my vote either."

Either you are a Liberal or you are an idiot. YOU are choosing - through your sitting on your hands - a Liberal Democrat over a conservative Republican.

What you are doing is 10X worse than anything Santorum did.

Toomey now leads Club for Growth. I am CONFIDENT that Toomey and Club for Growth will endorse Santorum STRONGLY.

To stand back and let the Democrats win this key race will be a huge setback for conservatives.

1. PA is a solidly conservative state with a huge blue noxious festering zit in one corner. Without philly this state would have gone for Bush by 400,000 votes.

2. Any Dimocrap with a beloved name who is at least generally pro-life will do pretty well in areas like Scranton, Erie, and Pittsubrgh. Assuming the Philly votes are a lock - it is pretty much unbeatable, espcially in an off year when R in Whitehouse.

Even if he is a tax and spend liberal he is not a murder babies and trash America liberal. He won't be long for the D party if he gets to DC.

Will I vote for Santorum? Yep. Will I campaign endlessly for him? Nope.

Should Casey win, he will go the way of Harris Wofford. Remember him? - neither does anyone else.

Apparently you don't remember him, or you would recall that Wofford was defeated by a conservative Republican named RICK SANTORUM after Bob Casey cut him off for being too pro-abortion.

What you just said is, Should Casey win, he will go the way of Harris Wofford -- be defeated by Rick Santorum

Hey, I have an idea -- why don't we just vote for Rick this time instead of giving Casey a term? (More likely 5 terms, but whatever.)

Elections aren't about putting a perfect candidate in the office. They are about choosing which of the candidates will BEST represent your views and values.

Unfortunately, none of the candidates best represent my views and values. These days I pick the ones I think I can tolerate for four or six or however many years.

"Should Casey win, he will go the way of Harris Wofford. Remember him? - neither does anyone else."

PS, I think this is BS. I remember in 1992 when Boxer won, thinking - "She is so bad she can't last more than one term." --- 13 years and counting for one extremist Liberal Senator.

PA is actually Dem-leaning, it will be hard to win it back if Santorum loses.

Competence is not a job requirement for the senate. Expect Casy to live in that job as long as he wants, if he wins.

So how can Santorum turn this around?

Writing a book that takes working women to task doesn't strike me as the way to do it.

But one has to come closer than the others, right?

Does anyone doubt that there's not a boatload of Ketchup money in Casey's campaign account? Have another beer beeatch.

And not to mention the support of Howard Dean...he was just in Pittsburgh campaigning for Casey...making his usual idiotic comments about the President, blah, blah, blah.

With the support of Tarayza and Dean, I think Mr. Casey's candidacy might go down the tubes.

"And how did backing Specter hurt Santorum?" I think the posts between this one and your original post answer the question. There are a lot of pissed off conservatives in Pennsylvania who may sit out the election. Santorum got 66% of conservatives in this poll. Where are the rest?

Sadly, in this day and age, few actually do.

Relax guys..Santorum's easily going to win this one. While I did not appreciate his support of Spectre, you have to believe that Specter's going to return the favor. That means many of those Philly RINOs, who under normal circumstances wouldn't vote for Santorum, will probably do so this year. The race hasn't if started and some of you are giving up hope.

I'd like to remind you that the last time Rick ran, he faced a nother pro-life, moderate Rat - Ron Klink. The initial polling numbers will similar to what Casey's getting now, but Rick stomped all over Ron in the final analysis.

Casey, the Younger, is a lousy campaigner. The debates should be interesting. Rick has to do exactly what he did with Ron. Remind pro-lifers that while his opponent might be pro-life, his first vote will be for a pro-abortion Democratic leadership in the Senate. It worked on Ron Klink..it worked on Dashole...and it'll work on Casey.

I live in rural NJ and (believe it or not) its still as conservative as any area of the country but things have changed in NJ (it wasn't always a Democrat sronghold)...my sister lives in eastern PA (Monroe County) and, while still mostly Republican, its slowky changing as its invaded by people from NJ and NYC

Santorum had done this to himself.

First, he supports Specter, who most of us here in PA. wanted gone;

Second, not only is he arrogant, and insentive, but has he been around the Commonwealth to visit with the people? There are more places thats Pitts and Philly, what about the Rural areas where most of the support comes from...

Third, Hope he enjoys moving back to his 'house' outside of Pitts, cause as far as I'm concerned, thats where he is headed, I won't vote for him, nor will I vote for a Lib, I just won't vote PERIOD!!!!

I'm sorry, but that's just stupid. Santorum clearly is a conservative. And, secondly, he is a damn better choice than Casey!

These pissed off conservatives need to get over themselves and work to elect the person that will best represent their beliefs.

Worse than that if Santorum loses the PA GOP establishment will say "conservatives can't win" and field RINO's for upcoming Senate races. There is nothing to be gained for conservatives with a Santorum loss.
