Intel Officers: Bush Needs to Punish Rove for Plame Outing
AP ^ | 22 July 05 | Unkown

Former U.S. intelligence officers criticized President Bush on Friday for not disciplining Karl Rove in connection with the leak of the name of a CIA officer, saying Bush's lack of action has jeopardized national security.

In a hearing held by Senate and House Democrats examining the implications of exposing Valerie Plame's identity, the former intelligence officers said Bush's silence has hampered efforts to recruit informants to help the United States fight the War on Terror. Federal law forbids government officials from revealing the identity of an undercover intelligence officer.

"I wouldn't be here this morning if President Bush had done the one thing required of him as commander in chief — protect and defend the Constitution," said Larry Johnson, a former CIA analyst. "The minute that Valerie Plame's identity was outed, he should have delivered a strict and strong message to his employees."

Without the net, could you image going through a decade of microfilch trying to find that article?

BINGO! Without the net, many more liberal crimes would go unpunished and many more conservative ones would be manufactured without challenge.

Actually, she was undercover in the past, but became worthless as a covert agent when she hooked up with Joe Willy-Lose Lips Wilson.

Translation: Actually, she was only between the sheets!

Larry C. Johnson, "The Declining Terrorist Threat," New York Times, July 10, 2001

MYGAWD, he penned this 60 days before hell on earth broke loose. That is simply amazing in its irony and depth of ignorance to reality. Does shame have no place in our society anymore??

The Ass. Press gets it wrong again. As usual.

These are "former" Intel people who are disgruntled and supported Hanoi Johnny for President.

What kind of a hearing is held by Senate and House Democrats? I caught some of this on CSpan but couldn't stand it for long. Couldn't help but wonder why hearings are held by only Democrats! Does anyone here know?

I love this. Rove outed a CIA undercover agent even though she never served as an undercover agent!

Even if she were undercover, aren't govnernment employees supposed to avoid getting involved in domestic politics? Plame was trying to pull one over on the press by authorizing her husband to go on a foreign trip to dig up anything that could be used as propaganda aganist invading Iraq. She was trying to use her allegeged status as an undercover CIA officer to prevent that act of nepotism in the federal goverment from becoming public.

In April of this year, Sen. John Kerry blew the cover of genuine CIA secret operative Fulton Armstrong during confirmation hearings for U.N. ambassador nominee John Bolton - even after the CIA explicitly requested that the agent's identity be kept secret.

Why is it okay for John Kerry to publicly and irrefutably "out" a true covert CIA agent, while the mere allegation that Karl Rove might have told a reporter that the wife of a Democrat operative was a clerical CIA employee is grounds for dismissal?

Exactly right. It's impossible for anyone to "leak" common knowledge. The whole thing is bogus.

The Downing Street Memo is just an opinion from someone at a meeting, yet they want Bush impeached for that, too. Sheesh! Everyone has an opinion, but for some reason this guys is "special" (it's anti-Bush, and they really get off on that).

Couldn't help but wonder why hearings are held by only Democrats!

Because it's all bogus. It's all for show. They're running a 2006 infomercial at taxpayers expense.

In a hearing held by Senate and House Democrat

Was this another faux hearing held in a coat closet?

No Republicans allowed?

I couldn't agree more. Sounds to me like Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame both have a wee tendency to puff their resumes a bit... he's the non-partisan, distinguished diplomat answering the call of the Vice President, and she's the Mata Hari of our time, in deepest cover protecting the secrets of a nation. What a joke! If you haven't read it yet, you might check out the July 19th column in the Washington Times by Wes Pruden, titled something like "Summer Squalls are Coming." You can read it on line if you haven't seen it already, and I think you would enjoy it.
