Remember, Trump came out publicly for re-building the towers. If only they would turn him lose on that one. I got many happy hours of benefit from his work on the Wollman Rink in Central Park. That alone made me a fan. What a laugh riot he is.

However. He's being more than a bit disingenuous here. He knows darn well why it's more expensive than it ought to be, and he knows there's worse going on here than incompetence.

My involvement with the United Nations began with a letter, which I will give to the committee, from the Ambassador to the United Nations from Sweden. And it's a long letter, and a very beautifully written letter, and essentially, he read an article about the success of Trump World Tower, which is the building that I can show you, right here, which is, as you can see, very, very substantially taller than the United Nations, bigger than the United Nations. And he read an article in the New York Times, saying that the building cost approximately $300 million dollars to build. So, he wrote me a letter, and ultimately called me, and said is it possible that that building cost $300 million dollars, because it just seems so much bigger, and so much better, and so much more expensive, and so much more luxurious. And how could you have done that for $300 million dollars, when, at that time, Senator, they were talking about $1.5 billion dollars to renovate the United Nations. And this was around December of 2000. And I said well, there's only two reasons. Either gross incompetence, or something far worse than that. And you know what the something is, and that's corruption. Because there's absolutely no way that that building could have cost $1.5 billion dollars to build.

This is what happens when you drag a corrupt tribal savage, once removed, out of the pits of Africa and try to civilize them in the ways of the West and business. They have no clue.

Having been involved in USG building projects, Trump is right on the mark. These management types at the UN are babes in the woods when it comes to these projects. The UN would be better off contracting the whole thing to someone like Trump giving him a budget and let he deal with the architects and contractors.

So, what is our "dues" to the UN?

What if we gave them Trump and the renovations and billed it off over x years as our share of our dues.

So, that's it. Congratulations. You've got yourself a mess on your hands.

OMG, that is HILARIOUS. This is the BEST article I've read in years. I laughed all the way through it!

What Trump is actually describing, however, is incompetence. Clearly he does not care to accuse anyone outright of corruption. Safer to suggest they're fools.

And some of it isn't even corruption per se. Some of the problems here are quite legal. Indeed, some of them are mandatory regulations. Laws have been passed, long ago, to require unnecessary expenditures and prevent the kind of savings that Trump is suggesting, to ensure that everyone's palm is greased.

How much would it cost to move the U.N. to Europe? Not the building, that is ours, just the crooks.

Trump is something that no one in the U.N. or any government is: practical and realistic.
