'Pulsa denura' invoked against Sharon

Far-right activists instigated a pulsa denura - Aramaic for 'lashes of fire' - death curse against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon last Thursday night in an effort to thwart the upcoming disengagement plan.

The ceremony was held late Thursday night at the gravesite of Shlomo Ben-Yosef, a Betar member who was hanged by the British in 1938 for firing on an Arab bus in protest of numerous attacks by Arabs on Jewish targets.

Twenty married men, including rabbis and kabalists, participated in the ceremony. All 20, including Yosef Dayan - who instigated the same curse several months prior to the assassination of former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin - assembled at the gravesite, which is located near Safed.

Each man immersed himself in the mikve (ritual bath) before donning black garb and beginning to chant.

They had received permission to invoke the pulsa denura from a host of rabbis and kabalists, who said it was the appropriate time to resort to using the curse.

Far-right activist Michael Ben-Horin explained that the point of the curse was to exempt a human from having to kill Ariel Sharon, allowing "the angels of destructions" to do it instead.

Baruch Ben Yosef, a far-right activist who participated in the ceremony, told The Jerusalem Post that "The ten men prayed to god for him to rid us of the evil murderous dictator [Sharon].

Ben Yosef said that the gravesite was chosen because, "Shlomo was the antithesis of a Sharon."

"Ben Yosef gave his life for the Jewish people and refused to recognize the British government, while Sharon does everything for himself," Ben Yosef declared.

Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz has decided in the past not to launch criminal investigations into rabbis who have instigated the death curse.

Mazuz's decision was based on a previous court ruling in the matter of Avigdor Askin, in which it was decided that the pulsa denura curse ceremony does not constitute a criminal offense.

Idolotry. More associated with witchcraft, which makes it even more idolotrous.

You are correct. Jewish holidays start at sunset and end at darkness the following day, about an hour after sunset. They follow the lunar calendar which gains a month every 3 years or so. This year was a leap year so the holidays are 'late' in comparison to the solar calendar.

Goodness I get pretty upset with the Archbishop of Canterbury, but I never ask God to kill him. I just pray for Him to give the Abp of C a change of heart.

>But, what amazes me is all the people who seem to relish mocking the power of their own God. This, to me, seems nuttier... lacking faith to understand the fervor, and resorting to mockery of something they should understand, but do not or will not
"In recent days there has been talk coming out of Israel of placing a certain Kabbalistic curse, upon the nations’ Prime Minister. Known as the ominous Pulsa D’Nora, the Tongue of Fire curse of death . . ."

The Kabbalah's not
about God, it's about man
trying to be God.

It's Jewish witchcraft.
Prayer is fine. Scripture says so.
But curse rituals

regardless of hype
are about man imposing
his will (trying to!)

on God's Creation.
Your understanding of this
is just plain backward.

The mockers of God
are the Kabbalists, and not
anyone else here.

"... suddenly they're up in arms over some kabbalistic rain dance ritual"

I wouldn't categorize it in such a way, but those who are up in arms apparently want to do so, which leads me to believe, that deep down, all the uproar indicates that some secretly believe that there actually is a possibility of Sharon being struck dead. A definite case of the old Shakespearean "thou protesteth too much," LOL.

"It's Jewish witchcraft."

I'll just have to say that I disagree here and leave it at that. OK?

"Gershom Scholem was President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and a Professor of Jewish mysticism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem until his death in 1982. ... He also shows why regular Orthadox Jews avoid the Kabbalah (calling it Jewish witchcraft)."

Your message is noble but misguided. How can people pull together with a PM who has thrown democracy to the wind and is hell-bent on a course of expelling his own people from their land and surrendering it to terrorists who will use it for more terror, in return for absolutely nothing? What do you pull with? They tried every imaginable form of peaceful protest, entreaty, petition, demonstration... A pox on his house is the only thing left. I'm not saying it will work or means anything, just they have done everything else. So what the heck?

What the heck, is right. What are the Israelis to do? God knows, I sure don't. Uncle Sam will go along with whatever you have to do because that's the nature of reality. We won't let you down ever. And why in the world should we ask Israel to tether herself like a sacrificial goat for the Palestinians to gobble up? Maybe diplomatic doublespeak and then lock and load will work. I still don't understand why Jordan gets a pass when that country should have taken in the Palies years ago.

I found a really interesting piece, an ad by FLAME, in Newsweek, I think. The organization is Facts and Logic About the Middle East, and they lay out the problem in stark terms even an idiot could understand. Website is www.factsandlogic.org.

They show a map of Israel with diagrams of exactly where the Palies' Katyushah rockets and mortars located on the Judean ridges will reach once they've achieved their 'nonmilitarized' state, including Gaza. They can be truck mounted and thus are mobile -- easily moved and hidden, There's no room for Israel to breathe let alone live and prosper. The reach of these rockets covers 70 % of the center of Israel, where 70 % of the population live, the international airport and 70 % of the industrial base. What does Sharon say when shown this map? Is he crazy?

Every country has its share of wing nuts, the difference between Israel and its neighbors is that in Israel they're not running the country.
