In a break with Bush, Senate Republican leader Bill Frist will support bill to expand federal financing for embryonic stem cell research -- expected to announce decision Friday am in lengthy Senate speech... MORE...
I can't remember the last Senate leader that was worth his salt. (In the Senate)
Damn, you'd think the democrats had 54 votes to our 45.
Republicans are no different from Democrats, its like Ford and Chevy. This is sickening. There is no difference between this and the harvesting of body parts. SICK SICK SICK. I will NEVER vote for Frist for anything, not even dog catcher. This is rank political positioning for a run in 08. Wants to soften his right wing image.
wow...what a "conservative" move by Frist! what a phony....
and no, im not talking about embryonic stem cells, im talking about government funding it.
Frist is toast - what an immoral position to take.
GREAT tagline!!! GREAT!!!!!!!!
I would suggest that before they take this vote, they look at how big the deficit is.
Dang---I have noticed that every single one of the Senators that have expressed an interest in running for POTUS, has shot himself/herself in the foot lately...
MCCain, by joining in that GANG of 14
Biden, by writing a book
Hillbilly, saying she will vote for Roberts, opening her mouth at all.
Frist--voting FOR federally funded embryonic stem cell research...
Like you, I never have liked Frist as Majority Leader, and this is just the last straw...
What an idiot. There goes the 08 republican nomination, Bill.
If he couldn't pull the troops together and be a competent leader with a majority what the heck does he think he will accomplish with this?
Check this out gang!!!
Do you actually believe Bush is okay with Frist opposing him?
Frist has done absolutely nothing that leads me to believe he has any leadership capabilities. He's had this job for nearly three years with absolutely nothing to show for it.
You'd think his background as a physician would give him an additional reason to oppose this research . . . oh, that's right . . . logic doesn't factor in with politicians.
.. releasing him from this issue will help his presidential ambitions..
Not following you here; Frist was doing terrible in the pre-2008 polls of the base already. I would have thought this would bury what's left of his hopes. Or am I missing something? Thanks.
Frist supporting this rules whatever slim chance he had in '08 out.
However, Frist really isn't the sort to pull something like this against the W.H. Probably more than we know behind the scenes.
C'mon....I think this is one time that Frist did not get permission from President Bush...
Frist has been wishy-washy about this for a long time...I guess being a doctor may be the reason, but I saw it coming.
I would have been more surprised I think, if he had come out strongly against it.
Bush will just wait until after 2006, when he can replace Frist with a real conservative...maybe Jeff Sessions, but more than likely, if he is reelected, Rick Santorum.
