Gay teenagers executed in Iran
This week two gay teenagers were executed in Iran. Their only 'crime' was their sexual orientation. After more than a year of imprisonment, where they had already been punished with 226 lashes, both guys were hanged publicly on July 19th 2005. Mahmoud Asgari (16) and Ayaz Marhoni (18) are the next victims in Iran in long series of execution upon basis of homosexual behaviour.
These barbarian and medieval events have to stop immediately.
Gay & Lesbian organisations, Human Rights organisations, Nobel Peace laureate Shirin Ebadi, and even the Oposition in Iran are sharply judging the executions of these teenagers.
We call upon: -Our governments to sharply judge the execution of these gay teenagers; -Our governments to not send back to Iran asylum-seekers upon basis of their homosexuality; -Our goverments to reprimand Iran with economical and political sanctions; -Europe to suspend the negations on a associative treaty with Iran.
Let your voice be heard! Together we hope to make an effort to call upon our governments, asking them to make a strong signal towards the Iranian government.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
To avoid any stupid misunderstanding, I am a conservative.
"Our goverments to reprimand Iran with economical and political sanctions"
Then these same people would go on a whining binge about how the west is starving and murdering poor innocent Iranis with said sanctions.
Their only 'crime' was their sexual orientation.... execution upon basis of homosexual behaviourInternally inconsistent. Their crime wasn't SSA, it was sodomy.
Okay, look, in the first place, online petitions are just a fraction of a hair away from useless. If anybody could point me to any instance where an online petition has had any effect at all, I'd be more impressed.
In the second place, are you certain that you have all the facts of this case? According a story about Asgari and Marhoni I found on the Internet, the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission, Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International (certainly three groups that could make much political hay out of a state that executed people for being gay), Asgari and Marhoni were convicted of sexual assault of a minor... a 13-year-old, in fact.
There is of course little to love about the Iranian criminal justice system. The regime is a tyranny, and like all tyrannies, it's tyrannical. I'd like nothing more than to see the mullahs in Tehran go down and go down hard. But it does the cause no good to spread falsehoods.
I don't agree with putting them to death, but at least they are taking a stand against it while we "the more advanced" are letting it spread through out our country like an open sewer.
I direct the ACLU to assignment in Iran.
Sodomy is not a crime!
ummmm .... we can barely stop them from building nukes or holding innocent Americans as hostages for a year ... what good is this petition going to do?
Let's all get a collection together for plane fare. Quick, there is no time to lose.
Yes it is.
But Rape of a Child is !!!
"We also know that the authorities have been giving conflicting messages. Some are denying that the boys were persecuted because of being gays and they put more emphasize on the boys crime (allegedly they have raped a 13 years old boy), but according to the boys lawyer the boys had said that they did not know that such acts (sexual relations with the person of the same sex) were punished by execution."
It is in Iran. And the petition misrepresents the nature of the crime.
Yes. I agree with you. The homosexuals are clearly trying to tie their goals into terrorism.
Be very careful of signing petitions on line. I have an account that I can create aliases which I do for petitions. I found that someone sold my e-mail address because of this alias which I only used for the petition to help the soldier who shot the Iraqi who was pretending to be dead. On this alias, I started getting porn and also sales pitches. I was able to get rid of the alias and the junk mail stopped. Know who you are handing over your e-mail address to.
Bottom line - Iran has carte blanche to punish the crime of sodomy any way they see fit.
What is far more important is the fact that Iranians are not allowed to speak their minds without fear of violence.
I don't really care how dangerous it is for rentboys to turn tricks in the streets of Teheran. I care far more about Iranians being unable to speak their minds.
I suggest that you take your argument and petition to Iran and present it to the current government of Iran yourself, if you feel that strongly about it.
Are you sure? I can't see a real difference. You can punish sodomy, but not by death penalty, never!
What about child molestation? Or do you gay rights activists not like to address the issues?
(1) Speaking one's mind - taking one's opinions and expressing them verbally or in script on a variety of media ranging from private conversation to broadcast television to the internet.
(2) sodomy - placing one's genitals in another's mouth or anus or placing one's mouth on another's genitals or anus.
I see a real difference between activity (1) and activity (2).
You can punish sodomy, but not by death penalty, never!
I agree it is a tad harsh, but the issue here is that Iranians are criminalizing activity (1) which is not a naturally criminally activity. This has little to do with their excessive punishing of activity (2) which is a naturally criminal activity.
Evidently in Iran it is. They got caught and punished.
FWIW, another account I read implied that they actually raped some younger children.
But if that's the kind of behavior that you care to defend, be my guest.
Rape? Islamo-fascist propaganda, nothing more. They were only two teenagers.

The Islamic clerical regimes henchmen publicly hanged two young boys in Edalat (Justice) Square in Mashhad (northeast Iran). One was 18 and the other below 18 years of age. Before hanging the victims, the henchmen flogged each of them 228 times. The executioners wore masks fearing reprisals and anti-riot forces put the entire area under their control to prevent outbreak of public protests. The victims were charged with disrupting public order among other things. They had been imprisoned since 14 months ago, meaning that they were 16 years old at the time of the alleged offenses. The rise in public executions, including those of juveniles, comes as the European Union has refused in the past three years to table a resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Commission to condemn the violations of human rights in Iran.
Even a broken clock is right occasionally. Next!
I don't care if you're a fire truck. I think you posted this in the wrong forum.
Try DU. Lots more signatures there.
Says you.
Homosexuality is against their laws. It is not a normal function of the body. It requires to participants to use their bodies unnaturally for pleasure.
Do I need to get more graphic?
