Mexican archdiocese planning shelters for migrants along border

TUCSON - The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hermosillo plans to open two shelters for migrants in the Mexican border communities of Naco and Nogales.

The diocese intends to begin work on the migrant shelters on the Arizona-Mexico border within the next year, said the Rev. Cayetano Cabrera.

Arizona is the busiest illegal crossing point on the porous U.S.-Mexico border and is also the site each year of scores of deaths among migrants who succumb to the elements while crossing the desert. The diocese has those deaths in mind as it makes plans for the shelters.

"They need our help," Cabrera said.

The migrant shelter gives them an air-conditioned room to sleep in, a meal and a place to bathe and wash their clothes, all behind the protection of a 10-foot wall and the Templo de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe.

Since the shelter opened in 2000, more than 14,000 people have stayed there before heading north, Castaneda said. ...

A migrant shelter isn't enough, said Castaneda...." [T]here are people suffering and dying in the desert."

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy."

I absolutely support works of mercy. And I remember that whatsoever we do to the least of Christ's brethren, we are doing unto Him.

But isn't there something missing here? I don't see anything about "Don't go across the border, that's against the law, and lawbreaking is a sin."

Maybe the next phase will be to try to find industries, businesses, jobs, work, HOPE for people IN MEXICO so they don't have this desperate desire to leave their native country.

It is neither compassionate nor just to encourage this mass migration, which simply avalanches these people into a situation of crime, insecurity, and exploitation. This is not mercy. It's not fair to anyone, least of all to the Mexicans themselves. And nobody should be surprised by the growing resentment of their very put-upon American neighbors.

Read "Mexifornia" by Victor Davis Hanson. What an eye-opener.

I didn't know that part of the Catholic doctrine was to help people break the law. This is a new definition of mercy.

He'd do better teaching them the 10 Comandments. Thou shalt not steal (from US taxpayers), kill, or covet they neighbor's house (neighbor's country) might be good ones to start with.

Mexicans are Catholic.Americans as a whole are not Catholic, therefore Mexicans have the God given right to stamp our culture into the ground. The Catholic church is showing the poor people born into this country no mercy.Meanwhile, the rich and corrupt of Mexico continue to grow obscenely wealthy with the silent support of the Catholic church.

As I've been saying for several YEARS...the Roman Catholic church is complicit in the crime of advocating for, and encouraging illegal immigration. They're GUILTY.

Maybe they'll give them condoms too, so they don't breed like bunnies when they get here.
Oh, I forgot, it's a CATHOLIC priest doing this.
The Lord has provided so much to these breeders that they have to come HERE to survive.

As they did during the Spanish colonial period throughout Latin America, not JUST Mexico. Exactly right. What does it take to wake America up?

How about taking the wealth from some of the churches I saw down there and spending it on the local economy.

Then they can stay home and make a living!

This is not mercy. It's not fair to anyone, least of all to the Mexicans themselves.

I read Bishop Barnes' statement about reforming our 'immoral' immigration system. It's basically: Sure, nations have the right to regulate immigration but forget that and let's have another amnesty for everybody that made it to the USA.

Nobody seems to have much to say about the despotic oligarchy that has Mexico so screwed up that people risk death on a regular basis and pay huge chunks of money to coyotes to get out. No thoughts on that at all.

Our president and Congress has brought this on us, and have invited the illegals to come to America and take what they want, and have sought help from the Catholic Church for years to break our laws. That's part of Bush's plan to redistribute the wealth of America to the pest holes of the world. Our elected are up to their unholy butts in treason. By 2010, we won't even have a country named America it will be called The North American Community. We won't have borders, thanks to CAFTA.

The media black out on what is taking place in America is frightening. How much money are they getting to betray us?

Anything that is not capitalist is socialist? Socialism is contrary to the teaching of the Church.

Instead of criticizing the number of children they have, why don't you help forward the American way of life by encouraging native-born Americans to have children themselves, instead of aborting and contracepting.
