WND INVASION USA Bush epiphany: People sneaking in President calls for securing border, but still wants guest-worker plan Posted: August 4, 2005 2:39 a.m. Eastern

© 2005 WorldNetDaily.com

President Bush speaks to the American Legislative Exchange Council next to its Thomas Jefferson Freedom Award

President Bush admits "people are sneaking in" to the U.S., but maintains the solution is to create a guest-worker program for foreigners looking to do the jobs Americans won't do.

"We've got to do something about our immigration laws," Bush said to applause yesterday to an audience of state legislators in Grapevine, Texas.

"Our obligation is to secure the borders. We've got to make sure that we have the resources and technologies available for our Border Patrol agents. We've got to make sure we have a focused strategy to prevent people, goods, drugs, whatever, being smuggled in this country."

Bush has been criticized in recent months for not addressing the continual flow of illegal aliens across the border, but despite warnings that terrorists could be among those coming in, the president focused more on those seeking employment.

"One way to protect this border is to recognize that people are sneaking in here to work," Bush said. "And I believe that if you are a willing employer – in other words, if you have somebody looking for work and you can't find an American, there ought to be a legal way – not an illegal way – a legal way for you to be able to employ that person.

"Listen, we'd rather have people coming in with a card that said, I'm a legal worker, than trying to sneak across the border. And we've got people being smuggled across – a whole smuggling network, and a network of forgers and document falsifiers that are trying to beat the system. It seems rational to me that says there ought to be a way to let somebody come and do jobs Americans won't do, on a temporary basis."

Bush repeated his claim that he's against amnesty for illegals, calling it a mistake.

"But I do think it's good to make sure our employers who are looking for workers are able to find people who are willing to do the jobs they have in a legal way. I'd rather our Border Patrol agents be looking for terrorists and drugs and guns being smuggled across our border, and people here – coming here to work have a legal way to do so on a temporary basis."

Let's think about this. GWB is the President and he controls the military. Why can't he put the troops on the border? When the GOP sends you a letter requesting money. Send it back with a note. "No border patrol, no money."

If this were Bubba making this same statement, Freepers would either be laughing hysterically, OR want to have him impeached.

Dubya must think we're a bunch of idiots.

The military is a poor choice to put on the border. Despite the talk of "invasion," this is really a number of separate lawbreakers. Pancho Villa isn't crossing the border with an armed band to raid a border city.

The military thinks different from law enforcement. Military men think "kill or wound" when they see an opponent. Cops think "arrest". Unless we want an East German-style border guard, the military is a poor choice of tactics. Furthermore, under the Posse Comitatus Act, the military cannot intervene in law enforcements.

We need more Border Patrolmen, and there are 719 new ones coming in. That may not seem like many, but it's a start.

The Posse Comitatus Act will work on Active guys but I think the State can get around that with their National Guard.

Also, don't most countries guard it's borders with their Military? Or are we in the minority in using a seperate force to do that?(Border Patrol)

He's a real genius, I tell 'ya. Where's he been on this for the last 6 years? We do have the resources and would have more if we didn't continue giving our money away for "Iraqi freedom", THEIR border security or sending Billion$ down to Africa to keep AIDS patients alive so they can continue to spread their disease.

I think President Bush is finally hearing what the majority of Americans have been saying. He's feeling the pressure and has been backed into a corner. He had to respond, lets see what he does. Words are cheap.

It's not about law enforcement anymore. It's about the fact that we are being invaded during a time of war. We need the military mentality on the borders. When word gets out that they will shoot instead of arresting, giving the insurgents a good meal and bus ticket home, then and only then will this invasion cease. They're not all Mexicans looking for work, you know.

A Double parallell concrete wall topped by chaim link fence and faced with razor wire is th eanswer. Anti-Personnell land mines and/or motion detectors in between the walls -- go for it! Watch towers and entrance points to control traffic coming into and going out of the county.

Warehouses and refrigerated ware houses for incoming goods/vegs and fruits. All are unloaded and inspected. Reloaded into American owned trucks for internal distribution.

Immediate deportation for all illegals.

The military has intervened hundreds, if not thousands of times with law enforcement. Whenever the National Guard is called out for riots or other civil disobedience, crowd control, whatever, they are intervening.

The National Guard assists law enforcement in many ways, such as when they are searching for a lost child.

Let the Minutemen (Bush "vigilantes") handle our security if the military can't do it.

The solution is to stop them., and to stop kissing Vincente Fox's butt.

Military men think "kill or wound" when they see an opponent.

That would be a bad thing? The Mexican government condones this invasion. They even pass out pamphlets that tell their people how to do it. We need to keep ILLEGAL aliens out of our country at all costs. Having the military perform this action until the border patrol is up to it, is a good idea.

LOL! Good idea.
I have heard that the GOP will choose a moderate candidate in 08, well lately I can't tell the difference between Bush and a moderate.

The GOP seems to think its a mistake to anger the Latinos so they choose to get the approval of one group of people yet again at the cost to ALL Americans (voters) national security.
Brilliant Rove......NOT!

I think I would support a very limited and temporary guest worker program as long as it doe snot include any path to citizenship(eg. McCain/Kennedy).

Well Senor Gab-1955, bottom line: the current plan and policies utilizing the Border Patrol just ain't cuttin' it!

Keep this up and you'd better brush up on the old espanol.

For some reason this article left out part of his comments. Here is the entire text of his speech with respect to illegal immigration.

I'll tell you another big idea. We've got to do something about our immigration laws. (Applause.) Our obligation is to secure the borders. We've got to make sure that -- (applause) -- we've got to make sure that we have the resources and technologies available for our Border Patrol agents. We've got to make sure we have a focused strategy to prevent people, goods, drugs, whatever, being smuggled in this country. That's one of our duties. And I meet with Chertoff quite frequently -- he's the head of the Homeland Security. We do talk about how best to modernize the border security. One way to protect this border is to recognize that people are sneaking in here to work. And I believe that if you are a willing employer -- in other words, if you have somebody looking for work and you can't find an American, there ought to be a legal way -- not an illegal way -- a legal way for you to be able to employ that person.

Listen, we'd rather have people coming in with a card that said, I'm a legal worker, than trying to sneak across the border. And we've got people being smuggled across -- a whole smuggling network, and a network of forgers and document falsifiers that are trying to beat the system. It seems rational to me that says there ought to be a way to let somebody come and do jobs Americans won't do, on a temporary basis.

I've heard all kinds of talk about amnesty. I'm against amnesty. I think amnesty would be a mistake. But I do think it would be good to make sure -- (applause) -- but I do think it's good to make sure our employers who are looking for workers are able to find people who are willing to do the jobs they have in a legal way. I'd rather our Border Patrol agents be looking for terrorists and drugs and guns being smuggled across our border, and people here -- coming here to work have a legal way to do so on a temporary basis.

So immigration reform is going to be an interesting subject when we get back to Washington, D.C. I'm looking forward to the topic. I also want to talk to you about national security. Make no mistake about it, we are at war.

Interesting that he says he has "heard all kinds of talk about amnesty" but actually he is the one who proposed it while claiming it wasn't amnesty. He wanted to let the illegals stay and give them temporary legal status and allow them to get in line for citizenship when the appropriate punishment for their crimes was deportation and being barred from applying for citizenship for 10 years. That IS AMNESTY! He is playing the same cynical game again. He keeps saying he is against amnesty but I bet that the legislation he supports includes at least a partial amnesty for the illegals who will not be subjected to immediate deportation and a full amnesty for employers who have been violating our employment laws for years.
