A support group for "gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth" in Virginia is being accused of encouraging illegal sexual interaction between men and boys.

Atlanta Pastor DL Foster recently noted on his personal web log that the Richmond Organization for Sexual Minority Youth (ROSMY) had an ad on its website endorsing pedophilia. The ad asked "all ROSMY men and boys" if they wanted "to go to some of Richmond's hottest gay clubs for free" or "educate men about the importance of safe sex and condom use."

ROSMY is receiving financial support from Wachovia Securities, Capitol One, GE Financial, and Hunton & Williams. The group's event coordinator, Gregg Johnson, refused to grant an interview.

I know Hunton & Williams -- big law firm. Know some of the people. Wonder if there is more to this...perhaps they were unaware of who they were donating to? Some of these organizations hide under "umbrellas" and layers and layers of other legitimate, or seemingly legitimate organizations.

I guess I just can't believe the firm would knowingly contribute to a pedophilia group.

If i had money to put into a bank I would stay away from Wachovia and Capital One...actually now that I think about it, I have a mastercard to cancel (from Captial One).

In my email, they had a link for sending a letter to the 3 institutions, but I could not find it in the general page. An to think I do all my business with Wachovia!... Incredible.

But you know why this is happening? because we felt asleep at the wheel for many years.. being "reasonable and letting others live their lives," meanwhile they were working actively to recruit all these companies, and many did, thinking homeland was indeed inevitable. Of course, they did not count with the reaction on the last election!... and what is coming down the pipe, because we WILL FIGHT.

On the letter, I made the point to Capitol One(credit cards) that I tought their business was that one of a kind of raunchy, underhanded company. See, I move some of my debts from card to card, so that I can take advantage of the %0 interest for periods of a year to a year and a half (Hey, it works for me!). I set up my payments on my on-line banking automatically, so you will not miss even ONE payment or else [smile]. I don't touch them ever). Well with Capital One, 5 months later, I found they raised my Interest, because I failed to USE THE CARD.... etc, etc. (a little trap, I did not catch). so, BE AWARE WITH THIS CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARD PROMOTIONS COMPANY.

I e-mailed a contact at H&W and this is what she replied:

"No, the firm does not support ROSMY; however, ROSMY receives some funding from the United Way. Since Hunton & Williams is an active participant in the United Way, some of our individual employees may designate ROSMY to receive their UW contributions. We have no control over the organizations named by our employees to receive their United Way contributions. But I can tell you that the firm itself does not donate directly to ROSMY."

She also admonished me to "be careful what you see, read and hear." :)

I have emailed Wachovia (as a customer of Wachovia and Wachovia Securities) demanding an explanation as follows: To whom it may concern, My wife and I are loyal Wachovia Gold customers, who maintain investments through Wachovia Securities. We stuck by you as we were severely inconvenienced by the First Union merger, as all of our account numbers and cards were changed twice, wrecking automatic bill pays to our mortgage, utilities, etc. I am extremely displeased to hear that your company is funding a BLOG where pedophilia is encouraged, per the following link: http://headlines.agapepress.org/archive/8/afa/32005e.asp I would like some explanation with regard to this very serious issue. If no satisfactory response is made, I will be discontinuing my relastionship to your company.

Be warned that company has a history of over charging interest rates with phoney late charge fees. They've lost once or twice in massive group lawsuits for this. They're a scumbag operation.

Whoa! This person who replied is an upstanding woman and a friend of mine...I resent your name calling.

It appears you did not really read my post. This is something the firm has no control over -- the individual employees can designate where their donations go. The firm cannot legally force employees to designate their contributions to one organization over another, or to forbid them from designating this or that organization as the recipient of their contributions.
