Lies of Joe Wilson - Part II [freeper research]
Middle East Policy Council ^ | October 9, 2002 | [quotations from Joe Wilson]

Posted on 08/04/2005 11:57:37 PM PDT by Enchante

[Middle East Policy Council, from a symposium Oct. 9, 2002]

http://www.mepc.org/public_asp/forums_chcs/30.html

[excerpts from Joe Wilson's remarks]: "My feeling on this, and I share Tony's -- I think -- conclusions on this, is that we really do need to do something against the threat of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and I would concede to this administration the possibility that one of these days these weapons might move from the tight control of the Iraqi regime into the hands of organized terrorist groups who would, in fact, want to act against United States interests either abroad or in our homeland."

...."So the real problem then, it seems to me, is how do you deal with the weapons of mass destruction...."

"I conclude from that that there is, in fact, a deterrent value and trading Saddam's life, diminished as it may be, against his use of weapons of mass destruction and I think that it is worth considering because at the end of the day one of the things we want to avoid either in the region or in the United States is a counterattack against our interests, our troops or our homeland involving the chemical weapons, biological weapons that he clearly has in his power."

WILSON'S A FRAUD. Here's another one!! Wilson in October - December 2002 is expressing the consensus view from the CLINTON administration that Saddam retained significant WMD capabilities. Before the war this great 'expert' married to another great 'expert' wasn't expressing the slightest doubts about Iraqi WMD programs and weapons, only about whether to go to war or else pursue endless disarmament efforts. Wilson had no doubts at all in Oct. - Dec. 2002 that Saddam had WMDs. Near the end of this symposium (Oct. 9, 2002) Wilson refers to "the chemical weapons, biological weapons that he clearly has in his power".... Let's grant that Wilson expresses some doubts about the war from the standpoint of the potential loss of life and political and ethnic problems in any likely post-war scenario, but he clearly expresses repeatedly his staunch belief that Iraq has WMDs and that it's a huge problem to deal with - he does believe that some kind of disarmament strategy can still succeed (how myopic) short of war, but never does he even hint that there's any reason to believe Saddam had done away with all of his WMDs.

Soooo, Joe Wilson's hindsight is quite opposed to his own foresight! The man who is convinced that his little uranium junket somehow discredits everything about the Bush administrations case for the war was completely without doubts over the CASE for WMDs many months AFTER he had returned from Niger.

Wilson's only doubts were about what to do about the WMDs that virtually every intelligence agency and political leader in the world believed existed, and he took the Madeline Albright line that we could somehow keep Saddam boxed in indefinitely with deterrence and diplomacy..... Wilson has a policy disagreement with the Bush administration, but he has seized upon the utterly trivial and spurious issue of the "16 words" to try to re-write history.

What a telling transcript!

Enchante has conducted a search...and destroy mission.

I wonder if John Effin', the New York Times, Walter Pincus and and the boys ever did any research on the previous views of their man in Niger, ol' Joe.

WOW. Is that why Agent 99 sent Agent 86 to Niger? Because he believed Iraq had WMD?

LOL. I really think originally it was all about his consulting business - he has publicly stated that he was working on behalf of clients who wanted to start gold mining in Niger, and posing as some VIP former official while on the US government dime would make him seem like a man of power and influence. Wifey Valerie probably wanted to get him out of the house for awhile and this was a handy way to have him build the new family consulting business at government expense. He does slip up at one point in his book, when he's talking about the 'meetings' he had in Niger, and notes that a number of his guests only wanted to talk about "local business conditions" - guess he was working the shoe leather to track down every possible lead on uranium, sitting there poolside drinking "sweet mint tea."

Joe left government work and started his African business in 1998...the same year he married Valerie.

Wilson went to Niger TWICE regarding uranium..in 1999 and 2002...BOTH times at the "suggestion" of his wife.

Don't forget, a lot of people in DC knew Valerie Plame before she married Joe. Her maiden name was no secret.

If she was so covert, why did she actually write a memo regarding Joe's connections?

I'm still having a problem with Joe not signing a "non-disclosure" form, NOT submitting a written report and using Cheney's name as his trip sponsor.

The "get Robve" story really starts when a Wilson friend went up to Novak "on the street" and asks him what he thinks of Wilson. Novak's not stupid. He reacted just as he did the other night on CNN...and a couple days later, July 14th, published his article. Four days later, July 18th, Berger burgled for the first time. Was he looking for the Plame name. What papers did he burn? We assumed Berger was looking for 9-11 info but (IMHO) I believe he was looking for Wilson/Plame info.

Thanks, again for posting this.

Again we have the lying traitor, Joe Wilson's own words to use as a club to pound Wilson and his fellow lib traitors.

Oh pshaw. This background was readily available to any diligent MSM reporter and I m sure we'll see it Front Page at the NYT and on the Network News tonight. In fact, I have my radio tuned to NPR right now and any second, Nina Totenburg will use this very information to bring the world up to speed.

Any rumor that this is some sort of Clinton Plot to or VLWC to get Hillary in the White House is just right-wing delusion.

BTW, has anyone checked with Berger's laundry? There may be some important documents overlooked in his stockings or underwear. At any moment NPR will give us the whole Sandy Berger Episode and the truth. They have just been maintaining radio silence until all the facts are in.

Yep a Classic case of the amnesia the Dems suffer from. The guy has a pillow talking CIA WMD Analyst wife and he had no doubt that Saddam had WMD. The RNC should broadcast his comments from every mountain top.

Interesting comments you guys dug up. People need to stop harping on Rove, who so far it seems, has done nothing wrong, and look at the fact that Wilson may have just been trying to cause trouble for this administration.

Great work!

If anyone had any doubts that Wilson was a fraud, this should clear it up.

You would think that if he held these views, he would have talked to his WIFE about it and she would know to tell him he was wrong, right?

It's clear both Wilson and his wife thought there were WMD in Iraq as late as October 2002 and changed their tune in order to help the Democrats for the upcoming elections.

I wish I could sit here and read all this, but I am in the middle of a HUGE wedding and cannot WAIT for it to be over!

I'll be back on Sunday and spend the rest of my life trying to catch up!

Important insight, because it's not immediately evident and it's also generally unremarked. Very good!

It also fits into the strategy laid out in the Memo written by someone on Rockefeller's staff...

The memo was about using classified information on the "doubts" of the WMD intelligence to smear the President since no one could declassify the info in order to disprove the smears.

It all fits. The Kerry campaigns ties to the very people in the CIA who would know about WMD intelligence (i.e. Wilson) and they could "cherry pick" the intelligence that cast doubts on the WMD issue (knowing full well that there are ALWAYS going to be some "doubts") and exploiting that using the liberal media.

It all makes sense.

Yup, I also just commented on the extreme, staggering bias the MSM has displayed on this story. It's unreal, even when we think we know the MSM's biases....I would still think that basic professional instincts would require them to be all over Joe Wilson and his pals, but I would be naive.... :^) Consider the vast disparity before and after the Senate Intelligence Committee reported that Joe Wilson is a serial liar and fantasist:

You gotta love these quotes from a Wilson piece in the San Jose news on October 13, 2002. Lying liars and the lies they tell!

"If history is any guide, “regime change” as a rationale for military action will ensure that Saddam will use every weapon in his arsenal to defend himself. You need look no further for evidence than his use of chemical weapons to repel Iranian invaders during the Iran–Iraq war. As the just-released cia report suggests, when cornered, Saddam is very likely to fight dirty."

"Our message to Saddam can be simple: “You are going to lose your weapons-of-mass-destruction capability either through the inspections or through a sustained cruise-missile assault on the 700 suspicious sites the United Nations has already identified. If you rebuild them, we will attack again. And if you use weapons of mass destruction or attack another country in the region, we will destroy you and your regime.” The decision to live or die then becomes his to make."

Well I'll be. A good catch Enchante. As some other posters note, the MSM will be all over this flip-flop in no time and issue the American people a profuse apology for their statements about Rove. /sarcasm

Different websites.... That one is from Joe Wilson's publisher. The other was from the Kerry campaign which sponsored www.restorehonesty.com (that got taken down in a hurry last summer when the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence published its report proving that Joe Wilson is a serial liar and fantasist, i.e., when it emerged that Joe Wilson has been barking out his a--). When you click on that link now you get taken straight to www.johnkerry.com with mindless ranting against the Roberts nomination! I know it has been suggested here that because some Kerry-flack web peon claimed last summer that the "lost pages" of Joe Wilson were just some computer snafu, but if you believe that one I've got a vast piece of swampland I'd like to sell you. Some things are not coincidences, and my question for anyone who truly believes the Kerry campaign merely "lost" those Joe Wilson pages by computer accident is: why exactly did they not re-create those pages as quickly as possible and get them back up on the web??? It wouldn't have taken long, and given that this was supposedly an earth-shaking issue to them, it is implausible in the extreme to think that if they wanted the Joe Wilson website associated with the Kerry campaign they would fail to 'restore' their 'restorehonesty' campaign as quickly as possible. Nope, sorry, that one does not pass the smell test and does not pass the barf test. They deep-sixed that website as soon as it became apparent it would blow up in their faces (though perhaps they underestimated the resistance of the MSM to publishing anything honest about their Democratic Party candidate John 'Vichy' Kerry.
