From friends at ABC; Peter Jennings is near death. This is unconfirmed, but from usually reliable sources.

The ABC anchor, who was born in Canada but became a US citizen, announced a few months ago that he was suffering from lung cancer. He has not made a televised appearance since.

I've no love lost for Peter, nor his using the megaphone that he was granted to promote his own personal agenda (wrongfully, IMHO). It's difficult to just switch off and forget years of that gut-wrenching feeling I had whenever I chanced (unintentionally) to hear him on TV, and it's understandable why many of us can't. That being said...

His was a human life. Although I never agreed with him philosophically, he believed in himself and what he said, the same as we on our side of the fence believe in ourselves...fervently.

I don't know about his smoking, but if true let's not say that's what killed him. His life, like each of ours, would end inevitably. His life may have been shortened by smoking (as my Dad's was at 57 by prostate cancer), but at least his was by his own choice. Personal choices and consequences, isn't that what conservative thought is all about?

My prayers go out to him, and to his family that they may find peace.

Godspeed, Peter.

Your reply is yet another shining example of your complete lack of tact and common decency.

You have no idea what my opinion of Mr. Jennings is, because I have chosen not to voice my opinion, unlike you, who seems to delight in sharing your profound intellectual flatus with the world.

"Your reply is yet another shining example of your complete lack of tact and common decency."

"Decency," eh?

You'd have made a fine sock-puppet back in the day of the Communists hanging Joe McCarthy out to dry.

"You have no idea what my opinion of Mr. Jennings is, because I have chosen not to voice my opinion, unlike you, who seems to delight in sharing your profound intellectual flatus with the world."

That sir, is your prerogative.

MY prerogative is NOT to worship at the altar of one Petah Jennings as you MUST.

You can keep spewing your vile, tasteless, hate all you want. The more you do, the more you make my point. Thanks.

And if you act the way you do here towards people in your everyday life, I feel truly sorry for those around you. You must be something to have to put up with on a daily basis.

"Hate"? Lol, no, I pity you...You're clueless.

But anyway, good luck with that p*ssing in the wind. Very impressive stunt.

You're a real piece.

Of what is yet to be determined.

Thanks for continuing to make my point for me.

Point well made. Probably was some WW2 vet that preserved our country, led an honest life and contributed to our great nation in many positive ways that died on that day...

I feel the need to modify that. Probably thousands of America lovers died on that day but it is the most anti-American person that died that day that I'm supposed to be mourning over and sending my prayers out to...the world is sick.

No one is worshiping at the altar of PJ, at least not here.

The differences between Peter and Teddy Kennedy are immense. In fact, their differences are greater than their similarities.

For example, one killed a woman because of his desire hide and to avoid responsibility for her death. The other did not.

One is an old drunken sot, the other is "done too soon."

One is a morally reprehensible man, the other is a man whose politics you (and I) disagreed with.

To not know and acknowledge their vast differences, to lump them together, is dangerous thinking. Not for them, nor us, but you.

wagglebee,

to set the record straight, I did not perceive that YOU were deifying him.....I'm saying that the media is deifying him.

I agree, the media is certainly deifying Jennings, and I disagree with it. He was an accomplished liberal newscaster, and from everything I've read, a good father and husband. I just don't see the point in criticizing him now that he is dead.

ABC has begun a worship of St. Jennings with no mention of the costly loss in viewers.

Jennings was the most snide news reader on tv. Rather was just Rather playing a role for one party rule.

Kids, don't smoke. Die of something else.

I agree!Am I cold hearted???He chose his path did he not?He was a pro abortion pro homosexuality democrat. He was not a journalist. He could not separate his own personal beliefs from the news he was reporting on.He deionized my heroes,my Christian heroes.Brokaw and Rather are losers also. All three are losers, they where not journalists as I understand the term. They where all dishonest, biased reporters.IM SORRY HE DIED.GOD BLESS PETER JENNINGS.He was on the wrong side of all the issues,he lead people astray with his bias dishonest news reporting.I AM VERY OPEN TO BEING CORRECTED.
