I was under the distinct impression Jenanine Pirro had decided not to run against Hildabeast. This was the word on the street a week or two ago.

From the NY Post:

WESTCHESTER District Attorney Jea nine Pirro has put running against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton "back on the agenda," while former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld is again eyeing the race for governor, GOP leaders said late yesterday.

Pirro, who is expected to announce her political plans Wednesday, has been weighing a race for the Senate, attorney general and even governor in the wake of Gov. Pataki's decision late last month not to run again.

Senior GOP leaders said last week that Pirro had ruled out challenging Clinton, in part because Conservative Party leader Mike Long said Pirro's generally liberal social views would make it difficult for her to get his party's support.

State GOP Finance Chairman James Ortenzio, who is New York County (Manhattan) GOP chairman, also publicly called on Pirro late last week to run for attorney general, a seat being vacated because Eliot Spitzer plans to run for governor.

But Pirro, after several days of weighing her options, is now "leaning towards running for the Senate," said one of the state's best-known Republicans. "Her thinking is that if she does well against Hillary Clinton then she still has a life after the election," said the source. "Run and lose against Hillary, get 40 percent or so, and you're still a star. But if she runs for attorney general and loses, she has nothing in the future."

Insiders said Pirro was also being urged to run for the Senate by several of Pataki's political consultants, who stand to collect large fees from such a contest.

If true this ought to be good. It will be a battle of their husband's past. (The Dems will make hay over that for sure, payback for Ferraro) As much as I like Jeanne Pirro, she'll have as much of a chance as Lazio had. The big name recognition, being the incumbent and the inner city support for Hillary will be over whelming.

While I would like to see Pirro win, my take on 2006 is that Hillary is unbeatable in New York. She is actually quite _popular_ there (gag!). With an eye on the 2008 presidential contest, the libs and Democrats will pull out all the stops to get her re-elected.

The gruesome and unexpected news is that William Weld is eyeing a candidacy as _governor_ in New York state? Yipes!

Hello, Governer Spitzer!

Cheers!

I don't care if Hillary appears unbeatable. At least the Republicans will be fielding a candidate that will nip at Hillary's ample heels and smoke her out on many issues. Jeanine will be a much better candidate than Lazio. The GOP is lucky to get ANYONE to take on Old Crusty.

Jeanine will be amply funded and will cause the Hildabeest to dip into her presidential pot. Nor will Her Heinous be able to bob and weave on issue positions. She'll be facing a canny attorney/prosecutor.....and I can't wait to see a debate between the two, hah.

I look for Jeanine to violate Hillary's space, her face and her senate race.

Ms. Pirro in NY, and Ms. Harris in Florida.....whoo-hoo.

Hillary will have to spend every last cent to keep this seat.

Pirro has one disadvantage.

The New York press will do everything they can to prop up Hillary and destroy Pirro.

On social issues. Pirro and Hillary are the same.

On crime and economic issues, Hillary has been a disaster.

Pirro is a D.A. She could crush Hillary in debates.

I thought 2006 was going to be another off year in N.Y. State.

I'm looking at Governor Elliot Spitzer, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and Senator Hillary Clinton.

BLEHHH!!!

No I have a reason to fight.

WHERE CAN I GET MY PIRRO BUMPER STICKER?

Let the games begin.

Doesn't Pirro have an ugly divorce or two in her background and won't her marital history be a big negative in a race against happily married Hillary, who will highlight her strong ties to America's Greatest Living Ex-President?

This could prove to be interesting.

Just a few points from someone outside New York:
Most NY Republicans are too liberal for the majority of conservative Americans, but are to the right of any given Democrat. That is a common failing of ALL northeastern politicians. Liberalism is too entrenched there to be readily eradicated, so take what you can get....it's easier to move a northeastern Republican to the right than it is to make a Democrat conservative in any way, shape or form.

Hitlery isn't as bright as the media gives her credit for. She's a slow thinker, hence why she has to be kept in controlled settings. Her temper, which is shorter than a microscopic midget, is also likely to do her in. If Pirro's people are smart, they'll do something to piss Hitlery off, and do it in a live forum.

Hitlery CAN be beaten, but it takes a LOT of fire in the belly to do it. Her meager legislative record has to be pointed out REPEATEDLY, and make some unflattering comparisons between Pirro's record of accomplishments and Hitlery's having ridden Billy Boy's coattails all her life.

Concentrate on winning outside NYC and Albany. Most large cities trend heavily leftward, and those are NY's most liberal cities. If you can win the Republicans in NYC and Albany, as few as they may be, as well as convince the somewhat more conservative rural voters that Pirro is a better choice than Hitlery, the QB CAN be defeated. Don't look for a 70%/30% or 60%/40% victory....BE HAPPY WITH 51%/49%! A WIN IS A WIN! TAKE THE "W" IN YOUR COLUMN!

Pirro can defeat Hitlery, but it will take a strong strategy, and flexible tactics. Hitlery will fight dirty, so be prepared to fight back dirtier. Be prepared to counter Hitlery's lies with the truth, but also GO ON OFFENSE RIGHT FROM THE START! NEVER let your opponant have the initiative. If Pirro really wants to win this, she'll have to fight like she's never fought before....and it all boils down to desire. If she doesn't have the desire to win, she should step aside and let someone in who does. Defeating Hitlery will NOT be easy, but it's not impossible, and I believe that if a team is assembled to destroy the Hildabeast, that will be the team to destroy the Dems once and for all in 2008.

We are going to see how many New Yorkers have the guts to vote for a person who deserves their vote. If Hillery can beat this beautiful, intelligent, hard working DA who is actually from New York, I will no longer have any respect for the people of that state.

So it looks like Pirro is running. I still think she should have run for AG instead.

I hope she moderates her liberal social views enough to at least be able to get the Conservative Party endorsement.
