Mother's Protest at Bush's Doorstep Raises the Stakes
Los Angeles Times ^ | 8/11/05 | Edwin Chen and Dana Calvo

CRAWFORD, Texas — For more than a year, a modest bungalow known as "Peace House," located a few miles from President Bush's ranch, has served as a headquarters for antiwar activists. It is lonely work, with little more than a skeleton crew on hand much of the time.

But then Cindy Sheehan hit town.

******

Now, in the space of just a few days, what started out as a seemingly quixotic personal mission has become something of a phenomenon — with media swarming around Sheehan, leading liberal and antiwar activists parachuting in to try to make her their long-sought voice, and political experts in both parties working to assess what role she may have in galvanizing the public's gathering unhappiness with the increasing American casualties in Iraq.

Antiwar leaders hope that putting the spotlight on Sheehan will motivate Americans who oppose the war, creating a political force strong enough to compel the Bush administration to change course.

MoveOn.org and other liberal groups have rushed to provide support, offering media expertise and attempting to assemble a corps of others who have lost relatives in Iraq or have family members serving there.

******

By Wednesday night, Sheehan had given so many interviews that she was sucking on lozenges to soothe an inflamed throat. Her ears were sore from cradling a telephone. Her media advisor, newly arrived from San Francisco, said Sheehan had developed a fever.

None of that stopped her. Whether talking to newspaper reporters, People magazine or radio and television interviewers — some from as far away as Japan — she was relentlessly on message.

None of that stopped her.

Not even her gross contradictions.

Isn't there just ONE pro-war mom that can stand there and prove the media bias?

See if they swarm this way around a pro-war mom.

These cowards couldn't 'stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door' if you put a gun to their heads.

Menopausally temporarily insane. There I said it now no one else has to, although many join me in thinking it.

She is obviously not thinking clearly and the bastards in the ratmedia are using her in the mistaken belief that this will somehow hurt the President. They know it will hurt the war effort but that's not important to these skunks.

They're using this mother. After August is over, she'll fade into the woodwork and they'll find someone else to whip Bush's hide. The war as far as the moonbat Left is concerned, is a secondary issue.

Her "Media Advisor"? How many "grieving" mothers have Media Advisors. Her husband is divorcing her, She's mental.

Her 15 minutes of fame are quickly running out...

The DU crowd seems to think this little publicity stunt of hers is going to gain traction and steamroll. I think that as soon as the next "big" story hits the media will move on and in a month nobody will remember her.

So, it's offical, the msm is just going to ignore her well-documented 180?

Which time was she lying? Last summer or now? Or is that too subtle for the left? They continue to romp in fantasy land.

Someone, please reassure me that more and more normal Americans see through all this and don't believe let alone celebrate this woman.

Let's not forget to condemn the Los Angeles Times for trying its best to keep this pathetic story alive. If only there were a Pulitzer Prize category for the attempt to MAKE & MOLD the news through embellishment and anti-American bullsh*t drivel, the LA Times would have something to crow about!

Enough is enough, she is nothing but a pawn (maybe worse) of a socialist movement whose goal is to take away any right you have to defend your beliefs and face your enemy. I feel sympathy for her loss, but not for her activism. Her activism is for a cause that is bent on destroying what remains of American values, culture and liberty. I can not and will not let her use of the loss of her sons life come between my beliefs and criticism of her actions.

Yea well they said that about the Downing Street Memo, their lie about Bush being AWOL in the military, Plame and tons of other stuff. You see if they keep telling themselves that they feel better and they can stop their Psycho therapy for a bit.

In spite of the beating it sometimes takes here, FOX news is widely watched. Don't know if it's enough but it helps.

I wonder if Juanita Broaddrick camping out on Clintoon's doorstep in protest would've received the same fawning press coverage, if any.

"After August is over, she'll fade into the woodwork and they'll find someone else to whip Bush's hide."

When President Bush goes back to Washington, I wonder if she'll stayed camped out in Crawford or if the dem/lib/socialists/Move-on/DUers will pitch a tent for her outside the White House?? Might get chilly in a couple of months!!

My heart goes out to her husband and three living children because they are in a terrible position. I think she is having a very public nervous breakdown and is isolating herself from any and everyone who could help her.

As a mom and grandmother of a young man considering entering the military, this woman makes me soooooo mad. How dare she dishonor her son in this way. If I could I go out there and just punch her in the head. Alright, I know violence does not solve anything (hahahahah) but it would make me feel better.
