Bush: 'Calm' Proves Expulsion Good for Israel 17:32 Aug 11, '05 / 6 Av 5765
(IsraelNN.com) President George W. Bush made a special announcement Thursday afternoon (Israeli time) backing the expulsion of Jewish residents from Gush Katif and northern Gaza as being good for Israel's security.
"There was an Intifada and killing and now there is calm and there are fewer attacks, and in the long run this will be good for Israel's security," he said.

Islamic Jihad: Attacks will continue after pullout
By JPOST.COM STAFF
Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah announced that his organization would continue launching terrorist attacks against Israel even after the upcoming withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
When asked whether Gaza operatives would continue firing Kassam rockets and mortar shells at Israeli communities, Shalah replied that this depends on a number of factors, including Palestinian efforts to maintain national unity.
He stressed that there would not be a civil war in the Palestinian Authority, Israel Radio reported.

Assuming he actually said this, it's not true, and is not
the message that the US needs to be sending.
What Bush needs to say is:
"We expect the population of Gaza to uphold their end
of the bargain, in every respect, or face obliteration."

Ok, here's my problem with the Gaza Strip. It is a useless piece of land. Ok, so 28.95% is arable land and it lacks fresh water. And just look at the thousands of Muslim lunatics that live there! Who in his right mind would willingly live in that landfill anyway?

Even if true, not the point.
Surrendering to terror while pretending you're not (sometimes called lying) is the point.

If I were to use Bush's reasoning for Calm and Fewer attacks, then I guess we should prepare to give Texas to Mexico so they'll stop the killings in Nuevo Laredo...
Bush is wrong to strong arm Israel with his road map..the Gaza Strip belongs to Israels people, it was not for Sharon and Bush to take away.

Surrendering to terror while pretending you're not (sometimes called lying) is the point. The Israeli government is doing the right thing. Pull back, build a fence and disengage from the Palestinians until they can come up with some sort of rational government.
Until then, let them stew in their own juices.

Good question. If terrorism is OK in Israel, it should be OK anywhere, right?

Why can't people understand the facts.
Israel is not, repeat not, disengaging from the "Palestinians" with this capitulation to terror. There is the whole "West Bank" full of them and there will be a free flow of people and goods (read terrorist and arms) between the two areas.

There are MORE ATTACKS now than any time in the last 18 months...

There is the whole "West Bank" full of them and there will be a free flow of people and goods (read terrorist and arms) between the two areas. Free-flow of terrorists and arms between Israel and the West Bank? The fence is already doing a good job of nipping that in the bud. Pulling Israeli citizens out of the West Bank will make that even easier.
The fact is, Israeli towns in the West Bank are tough to protect. They are like American settlements in the Old West- surrounded by hostile natives. However, in the case of the West Bank, the natives will always remain hostile and in the majority. Leaving the Israeli towns there just guaranties that those towns will constantly be a flashpoint and a problem for Israel's security.

Pulling Israeli citizens out of the West Bank will make that even easier. There are also Arabs in Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv. Come to think of it, everywhere in Israel.

Fair enough... I don't see a problem with moving out of the Gaza Strip. Nevertheless, if Hezbollah, Hamas et al start using this territory to fire their rockets at Israeli targets or set up camps for homicide bombers, then the IDF has to attack them in a draconian way.

If only it were that simple. I fear that disengagement isn't realistically possible, what with that whole Jerusalem question and everything.

"Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime." But expelling Jews and giving their homes to Hamas is a good thing.
