SUNRISE -- Police seized 2 ounces of marijuana at the home of Anthony Diotaiuto after shooting him 10 times, according to information on the drug raid released Tuesday.

Also Tuesday, while many friends and relatives of the 23-year-old bartender and student mourned him at a Davie funeral home, others appeared at a Sunrise City Commission meeting to demand an explanation for the fatal raid

"Do 2 ounces of marijuana constitute a death warrant?" asked Sunrise resident William de Larm, a friend of Diotaiuto's.

FWIW, 2 oz of pot is a bit much for personal consumption...

Nope.

but maybe he bought in bulk because, as everyone knows, the more you buy, the more you save.

LOL

Not if high quality only comes around every leap year it's not. ;^)

2 ounces is certainly enough to deal, but it's also small enough for private consumption. If you smoke marijuana often enough, sooner or later you are going to get tired of paying higher prices, and buying more frequently. Stocking up pays off. I know people who have 4 ounces of pot for personal consumption at home, because they think that if they have to buy it less frequently, that's less exposure and less danger of getting in trouble.

Personally, if this guy got 5 bullets for every 1 ounce of weed at his house, there would have been times in the past where my roommates could have been riddled with 50 bullets. And that too was for personal consumption.

The main point is that it's a sad commentary on our wonderful experiment in Liberty, when a man is in a position where he is shot 10 times for possessing, even with intent to sell, 2 ounces of dried plant material.

That man was shot for grabbing a gun. He was served a search warrant for POT. BIG difference!

Well, I'm still curious about the actual affadavit. It does seem like over kill (no pun intended.)

Well, not that Id know from personal experience or anything, but it all depends on the grade and who you know. A friend could get mexican brickweed (aka shwag) for $50-60/oz (Ill admit this is a really good deal). On the other hand, high quality stuff retails for about $50 for 1/8oz. I wouldn't be surprised if the price has gone down since the 80s, prices for other drugs e.g. cocaine have fallen dramatically since then (so I hear).

Well, he was severely violating his CCW conditions. Zero sympathy for this guy.

I've got a powder scale for reloading. Guess I'm a felon.

Well, I'm impressed with you guys, then. Personally, IMO, keeping more than an oz around is inviting just this kind of trouble.

Oh, yeah. The police created a far-reaching murderous conspiracy to wax some pothead whose mom is a Howard Stern impersonator. Makes perfect sense to me.

Yeah the cops would never lie to cover their asses. Glad you swallow their story with ease.

From the story: He had two ounces of pot, a felony. He ran and grabbed a loaded weapon and drew down on the cops. The cops had made at least one undercover buy of drugs at the house. The house was under surveillance for drug actvity.

The guy was a drug dealer, plain and simple. I've known drug dealers that were just as nice as can be...if you didn't know they were drug dealers. Just because he only had two ounces of pot at the time (still a felony) doesn't mean he didn't have much more than that in the past or didn't have other drugs.

Lets assume you know the difference between a perps state of mind and a law abiding citizen. How do you think they got a judge to sign a warrant; because he was accused of a crime!

"If you want to play you will pay! The Police identified themselves and the perp grabbed a gun. Justice served!"

It's only going to be a problem if you're obediant when the home invaders shout "police" to keep you from defending yourself.

They'd *never* do that, would they?

Pick a subject you know something about.

I may be a little rusty, but an ounce of pot was a lot of pot 20 years ago, and I imagine still is today... 28 grams in an ounce.

40 grams or more is a felony quantity here, I think. He's a dealer. Whether there's anything wrong with that, or whether he 'deserved to die' is another issue.

Interesting...I looked up some prices on the 'net and see that in 2001, an oz. was going for about $100-200, so I guess that you are right.

I've been out of the loop for awhile now...guess I'm an old fart.

Yeah you can only legally own a weapon if you don't possess certain naturally occuring plants. Sorry, self defense is a God given right as stated in the 2nd Amendment. Your argument holds no weight.

Seems to me they could have executed the search warrant as he got out of work, or made his way to the grocery store, or any number of things. And, even having a CCW permit, I would assume even a routine traffic stop would have been safer and more effective for the officers involved.
