Its evident from the name "Yashen Maharaj" is a Hindu.

part of the problem with a conflict with a religion is you cant tell who is a follower of the religion. It's like looking for a communist. I think a couple of thugs in the UK just dicovered that. How much you wanna bet they were drunk and just saw some foreign looking guy.

Just wait till the economy craters....again. I'd be wary if I were of any nationality that wasn't part of a yob gang. What has happened will happen in LA and NYC.... each group that claims or desires to keep it's "ethnic roots or identity" and not assimilate into the host country will be seen as an "outsider"...and a threat.
When trouble threatens a country, those outsiders are made the scapegoat....as threats to the security of the country.

I notice that when Muslims kill white people it is termed terrorist attacks.
When white people seek revenge its termed "racial" attacks.

Perhaps the british government should make muslims wear some kind of marking on their lapel--perhaps a yellow crescent?--so travesties like this do not happen again.

So. . .are there no muslims with a "hindu" name?
Are there no non-muslims with a muslim names?
Interesting thing is, the article does not mention the religion of the victim, and that is telling.
When the victim is non-muslim and an apparent victim of an anti-muslim attack, the media ALWAYS makes this point very clear. They did not do so this time. Interesting.
I'll hold judgment on this one.

It's a very unfortunate incident, and a black eye for their community. Perhaps, they should pass out program guides to the locals just like the soccer games to show them how to distinguish between the different parties involved. I know this may sound absurd, but it is a viable option. Their soccer thugs after all...

I would recommend that all Indians wear red dots on their foreheads, so as to make it clear they are Hindus. Sikhs can wear their orange turbans but should have a sign saying "I am not a filthy Muslim" or something like that.

It may be timely to recall, that todays India, was comprised of Pakistan and Bangladesh, both of which, are now Muslin countries. Residents of all three countries are of the same descent.... Logic would seem to dictate, that some Indo-Indians, are Muslims....
The two countries, Pakistan and Bangladesh, were establisted, by Partition in 1947, following riots, between the Hindus and Muslims....

Actually I had trouble after Sept 11, I was working late in my lab and was going home around 2 in the night and I was sorrounded by a group American students with baseball bats who luckily stopped to asked me my name and my nationality. Luckily my name was very Hindu (Hari Krishna cant get more Hindu) and I told them I was Indian.
But I was rattled, I have lived in Punjab in 80s and Kashmir in the 90s but I have not been quite that rattled.
Also its kind of ironic that a Sikh was killed being mistaken for Muslim after all Sikhism was formed to protect Hindus from Muslims if you remember history.
