Friday, Aug. 12, 2005 11:14 a.m. EDT Clinton Lawyers: Mohamed Atta Off-Limits

A year before the 9/11 attacks, Clinton administration lawyers told a group of military intelligence officers that information they had developed on 9/11 ringleader Mohamed Atta could not be shared with the FBI, saying of Atta himself: "You can't even touch him - it doesn't matter what information you have."

Rep. Curt Weldon, who helped develop the military intelligence group code-named "Able Danger," delivered the bombshell revelation in an interview Thursday with WABC Radio host Sean Hannity.

WELDON: In September of 2000 we tried on three occasions to take the information we had developed and pass it along to the FBI so they could follow up and take action against this [al-Qaida] cell and perhaps bring in Atta and question him and do whatever else was necessary. Three times we were turned down by lawyers in the administration.

HANNITY: We're talking about lawyers in the Clinton administration?

WELDON: Yes, it was the Clinton administration. Lawyers said there were two reasons why you can't do that. And they even put stickies over the face of Mohamed Atta on this chart they had. They said: "He's here legally. He's either got a green card or he's got a visa. So you can't even touch him - it doesn't matter what information you have." [END OF EXCERPT]

Moments later, Weldon said he was determined to find out who it was who ultimately gave the order to protect the lead 9/11 hijacker.

WELDON: The American people need to have answers. They need to have answers about who made the decision to stop our military intelligence from sharing information with the FBI, and how high up the ladder that went.

Did it stop at DoD? Or was the Justice Department involved in that decision? Or was the White House involved in that decision? [END OF EXCERPT]

Well, I can't believe that the Bushies DIDN'T know about Able Danger all along. If they didn't, they were as blindsided as the media.

I think this scandal will go all the way up to the presidency -- the Clinton presidency.

Bush held back on it just like he was forgiving about everything else Clinton did -- like the whole trashing of the White House thing.

I think the Bushies, with all the dirt they had hanging over the Clintons, were really hoping that Clinton, as the titular head of the Democrat party, would keep his people reigned in a bit, and that the "new tone" would be given a chance.

I mean, Able Danger is all water under the bridge, isn't it? Bill Clinton and Papa Bush are playing golf together, right?

But finally, W's forebeanance was worn out with the latest Clinton attack on Judge Roberts, especially combined with all of the other continued liberal attacks on every other Bush move.

I think (hope) that these Able Danger revelations are (finally) a shot across the bow to the Clinton democrat party that they have reached the limit, and if they don't start playing by the rules, a lot more is to follow.

He is the indirect cause of 9/11.

It's not so indirect. We were getting blasted and blasted and blasted. I don't think that the fact we haven't get hit maybe is because we're doing so great, but maybe our security is just a little more back to normal.

I would bet if anyone ever gets to the bottom of this Hillary's hand prints will be all over this. This fits her MO to a tee. Total control, total scripting, of everything is what she was after. I don't think bubba gave a dam one way or the other. This wreaks of a hillary job.

Once again from what I have gleaned over the past few days the idea was for gorelicks wall to filter everything away from the military,(sounds like hitlery she hate the military), and let the decision on what action, if any, be made by hillary's lawyer buddies. Sounds like her all the way. this way they preempt the fbi, cia, the others, and the military. Just a guess but I bet it's close.

"Did it stop at DoD? Or was the Justice Department involved in that decision? Or was the White House involved in that decision?

We need to know all about what was going on in that time period in those departments. But we also need to know whether Gorelick's 'wall' is still overshadowing this entire matter. Here's something I think could prove to be really big, to go along with Gorelick's 'wall' memo from the Dept. of Justice -- does anyone have Pentagon or media contacts who could pursue this issue:

Not only did Gorelick write the infamous 'wall' memo setting policy in the Dept. of Justice, but BEFORE that she was the General Counsel for DOD in the immediate aftermath of Waco!! Recall that when the "Able Danger" matter broke the other day we were being told the policy against sharing such info from the military to the FBI was said to be instituted "BECAUSE OF WACO."

So, did Jamie Gorelick in 1993-94 (while the Pentagon's senior official for ALL such matters in the DOD) set any policies, write any memos, etc. that would still have been operative toward the end of the Clinton administration??? Consider, she may well have selected and TRAINED some of the very "Pentagon lawyers" who blocked "Able Danger" info from being transmitted to the FBI. Gorelick had worked BOTH sides of the Pentagon and Justice/FBI divide so vital to this matter -- indeed, she was very likely the ONLY senior offical (certainly the only LEGAL official) to have worked both sides of this particular divide during the Clinton years!!!. Granted, she had left government in 1997 BUT her policies, procedures, and dictates may well have been still operational in the Pentagon, AS THEY CLEARLY WERE IN JUSTICE AND THE FBI, from what Ashcroft testified to about "the wall"....

"Before joining the Department of Justice, Gorelick served from May 1993 to April 1994 as General Counsel of the Department of Defense."

http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/1997/January97/018dag.htm

p.s. Here's something to make us all ill, Gorelick being feted by the left-liberal establishment:

In other words, is there another 'wall' memorandum (or related documents) buried in DOD files of the General Counsel's office, etc.????? Was any Gorelick policy barring such information-sharing in effect at the Pentagon throughout the Clinton years? It's a provocative question.

Such a document, if it exists and can be unearthed from the Pentagon's bureaucracy, would be truly damning.... especially if Rumsfeld could do an Ashcroft-type presentation of it at a press conference!!

There is one thing that has always bothered me about 9/11 and Hill and Bill. The fact that her nemesis and our beloved former freeper Barbara Olsen was on board one of the highjacked jets. It's probably a terrible coincidence but it has always raised my eyebrow. On that morning Bill was in Australia and Hill never showed up to some meeting on Capitol Hill IIRC.

Mark Levin was all over this, on his show tonight.

No matter hows hard the MSM is trying to continue to hide this, it is not just simply going to go away.

Note to self: she didn't necessarily have to institute such a policy while still at the Pentagon - at any time while she was Associate Attorney General she may well have sent a similar memorandum to the "Pentagon lawyers" telling them exactly how "the wall" applied to their work.... in fact, once she had written the policy on "the wall" wouldn't she have taken steps to ensure that ALL intel agencies across the government knew and were following her (imbecilic) interpretation of the 1978 FISA law??????? Maybe Rumsfeld could have an "Ashcroft moment" of presenting the same kind of document as the "wall memo"...... who can find a Pentagon official or reporter who would be able and willing to pursue this inquiry??

Incredible how much the Clinton administration has damaged America. And to think his witch wants to run for president! Damn, they both should be in jail.
-----
I agree as many do, and it did not take this recent BIG FINALE of discovery of the Clinton travesties against this country....they both should have been in the slammer a long time ago.

It is going to be VERY TELLING as to how the media, and our government handles this DISCOVERY OF SUCH INCOMPETENCE AND POLITICAL CHICANERY AND GROSS NEGLIGENCE !!!! IT WILL TELL YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT / MEDIA COMPLEX.

And don't forget that the Clintons had already removed every state attorney upon their election, so in cases where a US atty. had to be used, they were already "cleared" partisans who would accede to her new dictates. Boy, they plotted and schemed all this from the get go, those traitors!

Rep. Curt Weldon said today on Fox News that there are 15 unexamined boxes of documents(!), and now 11 witnesses(!!), (NOT just 1), who are willing to testify under oath.

He also is calling for 9/11 Staffers to be questioned under oath re: their evident negligence, &/or close-mindedness, &/or cover-up behavior, and/or stonewalling.

Under little-known, but established, US Supreme Court-sanctioned precedent, Jamie Gorelick, as a former Federal bureaucrat, can & should be sued civilly for gross dereliction of duty, for contributory negligence and culpability in 3,000 deaths (& counting), and for gross negligence as the DOJ "Wall of Separation" memo author, which greatly & unconscionably expanded the "letter of the law" to, in effect, protect spies and terrorists.

This in turn may lead to other higher up Clinton Administration officials being revealed as complicit or culpable under discovery, deposition and courtroom testimony.

Certainly the infamous Gorelick DOJ memo was consistent with the highly cautious and overly legalistic approach of the Clinton Administration (& The Clinton White House) toward National Security, espionage, and terrorism issues.

Do you know if anyone has ever compiled a list of the 'new' state attorneys who took affice immediately following Jan. 20, 1993?

Thanks,

"I wanna know why the 9/11 commission did not interview GORELICK??? Why?"

Simple...Gorelick was making the decisions on who to interview and what to report.

SOP for bureacratic whitewash jobs.

"Hold On now..........it doesn't matter who gave the order to let Atta skate.....the buck stops at 1600 Pennsylvania my friends, does it NOT??"

Sure...as long as a REPUBLICAN is the current resident.

If it's one of the MSM's own, it becomes a non-story that the masses never even hear about, let alone are whipped into a frenzy over a la Richard Nixon.
