One Hit Wonders
(Voter Thread)

Welcome To The Canteen Music Dedication!!
In our continued effort to bring music themes that you want, we continue this week with our Canteen voted thread of One Hit Wonders!

This list was compiled from various sources. Some of you may disagree with an artist showing up in our One Hit Wonders list, but that's okay. We're not here to state that we are the authority on such matters. We're here to enjoy some music from popular artist (although, not popular for long) of their respective music eras.

There are many artists/songs that are considered One Hit Wonders. However, we don't have all day and night to list them. We've gotta sleep now and again! Hehehe!

We enjoy feedback. If you have requests, please ping laurenmarlowe on the thread or via FReepmail.

As always, we greatly appreciate the opportunity to entertain our Troops, Veterans, and their family members.

Enjoy!

PURPLE PEOPLE EATER

The Purple People Eater was the #1 song for 6 weeks in 1958and the #24 song of the 1955-1959 rock era. It sold over 3 million records and received a Gold Record within 3 weeks after it was released, and over 100 Million Copies Overall.

PURPLE PEOPLE EATER

Well I saw the thing coming out of the sky,
It had one long horn and one big eye.
I commenced to shaking and I said "Ooh-ee,
It looks like a purple people eater to me."

It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater,
(One-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater),
A one-eyed one-horned, flying purple people eater),
Sure looks stange to me. (One eye?)

Well he came down to earth and alit in a tree,
I said "Mr Purple People Eater, don't eat me!"
I heard him say in a voice so gruff,
[Helium voice] "I wouldn't eat you 'cos you're so tough."

It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater
One-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater,
One-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater,
Sure looks strange to me. (One horn?)

I said "Mr Purple People Eater, what's your line?"
He said "Eating purple people and it sure is fine,
But that's not the reason that I came to land:
[Helium voice] I wanna get a job in a rock and roll band."

Well bless my soul, rock and roll, flying purple people eater,
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flying purple people eater,
(We wear short shorts) friendly little people eater,
What a sight to see.

And then he swung from the tree and alit on the ground,
And he started to rock, really rocking around,
It was a crazy little ditty with a swinging tune:
[Helium voice] Sing a-bop-bop a-boopa-loppa loom-bam-boom.

Well, bless my soul, rock and roll, flying purple people eater,
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flying purple people eater,
[Helium voice] I like short shorts,
Flying purple people eater,
What a sight to see. (Purple people?)

Well, he went on his way, and then what do you know?
I saw him last night on a TV show,
He was blowing it out, really knocking 'em dead,
Playing rock and roll music through the horn in his head.

[Helium voice:] Tequila.

Sorry the rain ruined your day. Do they have a rain date? Post a picture of car if you can. Is it an older Lincoln to show? Neat!! :) <P

Extreme heat here. Just hanging around. I feel bad for the kids. Way to hot to go out. Hubby will make dinner tonight. I have it made. LOL!

Unfortunately, they don't have a rain date. :-(

A lot of shows have been rained out this year and we're getting frustrated with the weather. We haven't shown the Lincoln at all this year and were really looking forward to getting The Beast out.

Ms. feather had a good time cruisin' in it when she visited us a couple of years ago. It's a smooth-ridin' machine.

MoJo,

Glorious work as always by you and all the DJ's. You and I both know the Mix-A-Lot is no one hit wonder! (Posse on Broadway anyone?)

I've got one that may be hard to find though:

Just Ice-The Hip Hop Gangster

Just Ice was on the "Self Destruction" song and had an album and had the distintion of being on the first ever cover of the Washington Post Magazine. Had this one on tape and have never been able to find it again.

Hi, Ma!

I've always said that Rick Nelson was much more Rock-A-Billy than Rock. And that Rick saw himself more as Carl Perkins.

Thanks,

Jack.
