How do you identify mirror image twins? Right or left-handedness?

"What Makes People Gay?"

Cucumber sandwiches, Judy Garland music and show tunes in general, clear nail polish and European brushed leather pumps.

Next question

Well, it is indeed a mystery as to why homosexuality should have an essentially universal 2% prevalence in males, since it does not (obviously) help in reproductive success. What is not a mystery is that it is genetic.

First, would natural selection leave something as important as sexual orientation to chance? It would make no sense if it did...

Second, as the gay twin in this story illustrates, the spectrum of male homosexual behavior often manifests itself quite early on--before the usual environmental suspects can have their effects.

As to your question, there are theories, but no one knows (in science we often know facts before we can explain them). For example, it may be that the homosexual genotype offers a survival advantage in terms of creative and problem solving abilities of a certain type--but who knows? Perhaps someday we will learn the answer, but in the meantime the data favors genes by a lot--IMO. And you, of course, are welcome to yours.

IMO, sexual orientation is largely genetic.

I don't know. But I do know two gay men who are sons of ministers, one Christian Reformed, one Baptist. Both exhibited feminine behavior at a young age and were met with rejection in their homes from early on. Both are now sexually reckless along with other destructive behavior. While I can understand no parent embracing homosexuality I often wonder if something would have been different about these men had they been raised in a different environment.

Yes--that is the main way. Also, mirror image birth marks can work. The issue of brain lateralization is fascinating and largely unexplored.

The scierntists themselves are split down the middle about the relative importance of nature vs. nurture. In the end, each chooses a side in the argument and launches verbal barrages against those on the other side.

I doubt it. I think that it would be as difficult to talk those guys into liking T&A as it would be to talk you into being attracted to a guy's hairy butt.

And why would anyone choose a lifestyle that immediately makes their life 300% harder?

Nope. See Wagglebee's post No. 34, immediately below yours, for the answer.

Jung speculated that homosexuality was much more common in urban societies than in rural societies, because families were so dysfunctional.

Where did you get this fixed 2%? I hear different numbers from different sources.

What is not a mystery is that it is genetic.

It is impressive that it is not a mystery to you. Could you tell me why the frequncy of homosexuality and all other alternative sexual orientations was so high in the upper class of late pagan Rome? Was it some type of mutation or was there some type of genetic stratification?

What about homosexuality in prisons - is it some type of late time mutation?

Do you think that other sexal orientations or perversions are genetic as well?

Is adultery or promiscuity genetic?

I think Liza and Bab's get more attention these days than Judy. Maybe Judy should be considered a precurser, but the other two...I don't know...if they don't make you gay, they can sure make you sick.

I had a professor in college who claimed he was researching links between homosexuality and dysfunction. He vanished from the face of the earth .
