Angry widow calls for new 9/11 panel
St. Petersburg Times ^ | August 12, 2005 | PAUL DE LA GARZA

TAMPA - With details emerging Thursday that the Sept. 11 commission omitted crucial information from its final report last year, a group of 9/11 widows called for creation of a new independent panel.

"I'm very disturbed, and I want to get some answers," said Kristen Breitweiser, whose husband, Ronald, died in the World Trade Center. "I want to know what the truth is."

Her organization, the September 11th Advocates, or the Jersey Girls, was instrumental in pushing for creation of the Sept. 11 commission.

On Thursday, the now-disbanded commission became embroiled in controversy, after acknowledging it omitted crucial information about ringleader Mohammed Atta in its final report last summer.

Former commission members planned to issue a "comprehensive statement" Thursday afternoon addressing the latest developments but they balked, saying they were still reviewing documents.

In a scathing letter Wednesday to the former co-chairmen of the commission, Weldon said, "The commission's refusal to investigate Able Danger after being notified of its existence, and its recent efforts to feign ignorance of the project while blaming others for supposedly withholding information on it, brings shame on the commissioners."

Early in the week, Al Felzenberg, who had been the commission's chief spokesman, said the panel was unaware of intelligence specifically naming Atta.

But he said subsequent information provided Wednesday confirmed that the commission had been aware of the intelligence.

It did not make it into the final report because the information was not consistent with what the commission knew about Atta's whereabouts before the attacks, he said.

Citing the latest revelations, Breitweiser, the Sept. 11 widow, called the findings of the Sept. 11 commission "an utterly hollow report."

I can give her some answers, as can many authors who were there in the previous administration who SAW the Clinton regime thumb their nose at terrorist attacks and cover up many of them that happened. They wanted to be the administration of feelin' good, the good time Bubba and his Marxist wife! The commission protected them, as usual.

I wonder if Gorelick was unwilling to go along? Or Ben-Veniste?

The government really likes to try the "let's ignore it and the mainstream media will help us make it go away" strategy! It works.

Weldon has an uphill battle. Remember Carlos Ghigliotti.

I kept waiting for an anvil to fall on Gorelick's head.

It kind of did when Ashcroft testified. But the panel propped her back up and pretended it never happened... Kind of like the press now.

Re: the media guys "on our side" who are poo-pooing this. My guess is that somebody they all like a lot told them Weldon is a nut case and they took his or her word for it.

Remember back to the election when Kalb (can't remember if it was the father or the son) sent a memo that became public that it should be their duty to come down harder on Bush than Kerry because it was so very important that this election come out the right way? Also, hold in mind that one of the Kalbs (father or son--both share an agenda) was Soros' man and ran one of his programs (read scams) for him.

I almost choked when Britt Hume, whom I had always trusted more than any other, said that he knew Kalb well and "he's a good guy". Britt didn't say the memo was false and he didn't say it was OK to do that, but he sure as hell wasn't going to condemn the Kalb in question for writing it because he was good friends with the guy and (foolishly IMO) trusted him.

Now Marvin Kalb appears on Fox and talks swill there.

I sure hope you are right about Breitweiser and that she comes through

I hope I'm right about her too. She looks like one very pissed off girl, and one who is aware that she got it wrong the first time. I've always liked her. I know I'm in the complete minority here, but she was deluded by so many liberal influences around her. She has it straight now.

If the Republicans or SOMEONE honest in congress continues to push this story for a good while....... I'd bet she'd have her own press conference asking for congressional hearings.
