The mysterious giant sinkhole in Smith County is getting bigger.
It's now up to 80 feet in diameter. And water has started to bubble up from the bottom.
It has become quite an attraction for the public. And TX-DOT says that's dangerous. Crews have put up more barriers to keep people from getting too close and possibly hurting themselves.
The sinkhole formed Sunday morning, and it was close to 100 feet deep. Since then, more pavement and dirt have fallen in.
TX-DOT plans to send out scientists in the next couple of days to figure out the cause.
Some parts measure more than 30-feet deep and it drained what use to be a pond

CLAUDE, TX -- A massive crack in the earth opened up last week in Claude, Texas and its creating a stir among geologists.
Geologists said Tuesday the crack was a joint in the earth's crust. They believe the opening is the result of a weak point in the joint where one spot slips away from the other.
Some parts measure more than 30-feet deep and it drained what use to be a pond. Experts say earth cracks are common but the size of the crack in Claude is not.
False alarm. Scientists found Massachusetts Senator Edward M. Kennedy lying face down, nude where the sinkhole was reported to be located.
It's gong to swallow up that Soldier Protester Mom, just give me time, I keep running out of drill bits ...
The cause of this is simple. President Bush is in Texas. Therefore he's causing this condition. The AP, NYT, and the rest of the MSM should be all over this.
Man, what I wouldn't pay to have one of these things open up at a certain point just outside the Bush ranch.
Xperts haven't been to Texas---Where Everything is Bigger
They can study it all they want, but I want my Honda back. Momma told me to stay off the crack and now I'm paying the price.
The headline should read:
"Huge hole appears. Scientists are looking into it."
Casey is rolling over in his grave..........
I guess it takes a "scientist" to figure out an underground stream has eroded some soil away, causing the sink hole. DUH.
One would think water bubbling up would be a major CLUE.
Who would have thought Claude's crack was that large?
We're Doomed!
That was a funny one. Thanks.
Mother Earth decided to swallow up Sheehan and other Satanic minions, but had second thoughts about the indigestion it might cause.
Here I thought everybody had one. Or was that an opinion?
300 tons of spackle should be sent immediately..
Looks like a new fishin' hole in the Panhandle next year.
Hmmmmm... maybe they should hire a consultant from PennDOT.
PennDOT isn't good for much, but that little pothole is kinda puny. They fill 'em all the time.
Claude has a big crack.
