Sheehan Herself Sent "Israel" Letter to Friend
National Review ^ | Thursday, August 18, 2005 | Stephen Spruiell

Posted on 08/18/2005 9:50:46 PM PDT by kristinn

I've heard that Cindy Sheehan's mother had a stroke, and my condolences go out to her at this time. However, I'm still following a story about an appearance Sheehan made on CNN Monday night, and there has been a new development.

Today, Cindy Sheehan wrote about the CNN / Nightline letter / Israel fiasco that I've been following on the Media Blog. Here's what she had to say on Michael Moore's Web site:

Another thing is that the Israel thing has not died. I did not say that my son died for Israel. I have never said it, I don't think it, I don't believe it. It is just another lie, smear tactic from the right. It needs to die right now. It's not the truth. I stand by everything that I have said. But I will not stand by things that I haven't said. I am not anti-Semitic. I am just anti-killing. George Bush is responsible for killing so many people, but nobody scrutinizes anything he says, especially leading up to the war. Since there is nothing to smear me about with the truth, they have to tell lies. A former friend who is anti-Israel and wants to use the spotlight on me to push his anti-Semitism is telling everyone who is listening that I believe that Casey died for Israel and has gone so far as to apparently doctor an email from me. People have to know that he doesn't speak for me. ABC Nightline can't confirm his email is real and therefore any reporting on it is irresponsible. That is not my issue. That is not my message and anyone who knows me knows it doesn't sound like me.

This post on Google groups contains the letter that Cindy Sheehan wrote to ABC's Nightline. Yesterday, I e-mailed Tony Tersch, the man who posted it to Google groups, and asked him about the letter. Tersch, incidentally, is not the "former friend" Sheehan accuses of doctoring her letter to Nightline. He's just a guy who belongs to the Google group in question. Here's what he wrote back:

I came to know Cindy Sheehan several months ago, and because of my great sympathy for her, and sharing her cause, I sent her stuff about her and her efforts. For that reason I sent out to the Band and the Bull Yard Group what they said about her. Then CINDY SHEEHAN herself sent me a letter SHE had written, — a disclaimer of their portrayal of her and misrepresentation. I certainly did not doctor her letter, nor does she claim I did.

So Cindy Sheehan sent Tersch the version of the letter that appears in the Google group post. That version contains the paragraph:

Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel. Am I stupid? No, I know full-well that my son, my family, this nation, and this world were betrayed by a George Bush who was influenced by the neo-con PNAC agenda after 9/11. We were told that we were attacked on 9/11 because the terrorists hate our freedoms and democracy...not for the real reason, becuase the Arab-Muslims who attacked us hate our middle-eastern foreign policy. That hasn't changed since America invaded and occupied Iraq...in fact it has gotten worse.

Last Monday night, Sheehan told CNN's Anderson Cooper she never said her son died for Israel. Today, she tells Michael Moore's readers she never said it. But Tersch — again, not the "former friend" Sheehan accuses of doctoring the letter before sending it to Nightline — says Sheehan herself sent that version of the letter to him.

Given the radical nature of many other statements Sheehan does not deny making, it's surprising that she continues to deny saying that her son was killed to benefit Israel. But the available evidence indicates that she almost certainly did

Mrs. Miller is Cindy's mother and she did NOT sign that letter. That was written and signed by Mr. Sheehan's siblings and parents.

BTW...Mr. Miller is out of the picture; either already dead or moved on.

Then you better rule out Allen, as he has already piped up and said that President Bush should meet with Cindy; again, and I bet he isn't going down there, unless it's to talk with Cindy!

I was just telling my husband, if I had a daughter who was such a world famous humiliation, I'd have a stroke. Gee, I hope I didn't jinx her.

He eliminated my vote when he said that.

Sorry, Cindy, there IS NO DRAFT! No one, especially President Bush, FORCED your son or anyone else to join any part of the military!

And if what I read was accurate, he REINLISTED in 2003, which means he knew what he was getting into.

The Liberal numbnuts that have been infesting Crawford have been constantly saying that they are "only there for Cindy." Now that Cindy has hauled ass, will they be leaving too?

It wasn't the point of your post, but it occurs to me that the generally conservative Texans are selling food and hotel space to all these liberals. If someone pointed out to them how they are enriching people who tend to belong to the political right I bet they'd flee from Texas on the next bus...probably one with some lie painted on the side, of course.

I pray that her mother recovers and that Cindy comes to her senses, that God removes the veil deceit from around her so that she can see the true nature of the people she is associating herself with.

What infuriates me the most, is that the media is using her words to set up a Viet Nam situation. I was watching the local news last night, and they reported that "mother Sheehan" and her protest had sparked protests all over the Southland- So Cal, and all across the country. Then they showed tightly focused pictures of protesters, to make it look like their were more of them ,and they finished with the reporter saying to the one in the studio "wow, it's really gaining momentum, all across the country", and smiling with glee.

There was no mention of any other families supporting president Bush and the war. And there was certainly no mention of Ms Sheehan's controversial statements or associates.

That's what makes me livid. The press is portraying her as your average middle class mom, who's just like everybody else- when nothing could be further from the truth.

Starting with associating with people who've sent money to the insurgents in Iraq, and her other friends, who had an effigy of an American soldier hanging by the neck in a noose , as a porch decoration. Your average American mom does not have associates like that.

MISGUIDED MOM .

While she has a right to protest, people have a right to know about her ties too.

I would really like to know if she thinks her son is happy with what she's doing.

Read about Casey Post 109

It's obvious Casey cared very much about his fellow soldiers, and died a hero. It's hard to believe that he would be happy with his mother's actions, or her associates sending money to people attacking his fellow soldiers. Especially considering that he died trying to rescue them from an attack of the insurgents.

This doesn't get ANY press either- how Casey re-enlisted, how he died. IMHO people should know these facts. To not report them , is the press flat out lying to the American people, and pushing a false story.

It's also completely unfair of the press to ONLY allow her coverage and not other families of slain soldiers, Or those who have family members in Iraq, in harms way, for that matter.

The soldiers see this non-stop one-sided coverage of "Mother Sheehan" and write to their family wondering if America supports them anymore, or, if they are going to have a Viet Nam-like homecoming, and be spat on. (I've seen polls that show this is their biggest concern- Americans not supporting them)

They should not have to worry about this while they are in harms way. The efn press should be doing it's job giving "fair and balanced" coverage to the story. Instead of unfair and dishonest propaganda ,trying to deliberately sway the public's opinion against the war.

Not to nitpick, but the author of this piece is kind of dense.

Of course Cindy sent Tony the letter. It says so right there in the email at Bullyard:

From: SCINDY…@aol.com

To: ter…@mweb.co.th ; bullyard@googlegroups.com

I think this was more likely her husband's family that wrote the 'disclaimer'.

I hope that a veteran is waiting for her at the hospital with a tobacco jucie facial just like the one that Jane Fonda got. Cindy Sheehan is a modern day Jane Fonda.
