Fox says Pentagon Now Denying Able Danger Knew of Atta
FoxNews - Fox & Friends ^ | 8/19/05 | Fox & Friends

Just on Fox & Friends the "newsreader" who is subbing for Steve Deucy said that the Pentagon has today released a statement denying that any military intelligence unit had identified Atta prior to 9/11.

Nothing from other sources. Nothing on Google News search.

Who was 'making fun' of the AQ connection?

CNN for one. CNN was blaming the attack on a possible guidance system malfunction into the middle of the afternoon on 9-11.

Wonder if this will come up at the Pentagon briefing today. That will tell us whether this is from smoke blowing Clinton leftovers or from the Bush heirarchy.

The fact remains that the 9-11 Commission never mentioned the data mining program during the late 90's and whether the mounds of information it uncovered was useful or not.

Its good to be careful of artificial rising expectations. ;-)

Hah hah hah :-p

Do you have the feeling of daja vu all over again??

Although Clinton did, finally, leave the White House, his minions are still stashed in offices all over Washington DC. :-(

Absolutely something stinks. I just don't want the Dems or Gorelick to try and paint the search for truth as a political effort.

Documentation *must* come out if there is any to back up the tale being told.

So now I am wondering, especially given the slap-on-the-wrist sentencing recommendation, WHO Sandy Burglar was really working for??

Ever since 9/11 Bush & Co. have been trying desperatly to keep the WOT non-political. Arresting former Clintonistas for crimes that are less than outright treason would be counter-productive in their view. Berger's crimes of a CYA nature don't rise to the level of immediate threat so they are ignored for the most part. Crazy as it seems, it really is a testimony to the seriousness of an administration that won't take it's eyes off the ball, even to score political points. Somewhat refreshing, I'd say.

We can't have the impression that the Gov't is failing the people, now can we?

Yeah, and like you said, the winner of the "spin war" in the Pentagon should be clear to us pretty soon. If they come out and act as if LTC Shafer (sp?) is blowing smoke, then we'll know just how deeply those leftover Clintoon sycophants are embedded, won't we?  Just the thought of it makes me sick.  It's time for a special prosecutor.

I will acknowledge that I didn't have the luxury of watching much TV on 9/11 (or that week, for that matter - it is a tale I won't get into, but I think I saw less contemporaneous TV coverage of that week than anyone I know), but I was listening to the radio all day and night on 9/11 (in my car), and didn't hear anyone make such a claim after the towers fell -

I also went back a few weeks later and watched a bunch of coverage from several networks on a website that archived that day's coverage from several news networks around the globe - don't recall seeing any such nonsense from CNN.

So, my real question is - ya got a cite? That would be an amazing thing to see, so I'd love to see it. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but that would be so against the grain of everything I heard that day that I am having trouble imagining it.

As an aside, as I was driving that day, many radio stations had ceded their programming to national coverage, and I heard quite a bit of CNN radio on that day.

I'm beginning to think even Special Prosecutors hang out with Santa Claus (along with ethical Democrats and Republicans with backbones).

If Shaffer is left hanging, it is probably all over. Bush is fighting a very lonely war, but I'm convinced it is all that is standing between us and darkness.

Yup. Ran across it on one othe threads on FR that day. Wish I'd bookmarked it. It's around here somewhere. If I come across it, I'll ping you or you could look for yourself if you have the time. Or you could e-mail CNN and ask them. I'd be interested in any reply you got.

Every now and then I review that thread from that day. It is how I first heard of the attack. I was in my office getting ready to leave on a trip, and as you might imagine I ended up with a long drive rather than a short flight. The trip could not be postponed, but it was compressed in such a way that I ended up working about 16-18 hours every day that week. Needless to say, I didn't see much television.

Next time I look at it, I'll look for that reference. I can't believe anyone would be that stupid - even most raging leftists were acknowledging the nature of the attack that day. I don't think I heard the 'guidance system' thing after the second plane hit - so the only time I think I heard it was in that 15 minute period between hits.

Even so, that is a little shy of 'making fun' of the AQ connection.

" I also presume, perhaps incorrectly, that whatever database they use has a search function."

- I would imagine you are correct in your assumption. The Colonel specifically stated that Able Danger "mined" information from readily available sources, one of them being Nexus Lexus. Since that source alone searches for repeated names or phrases form a wide variety of publications or even broadcast transcripts and prints out the results as "hits" and the DOD group was looking for a pattern of recurrences in the source material, it stands to reason that the name "Atta" appearing time and again would draw their attention.
This is why I don't believe the current DOD denial that Atta's name does not appear in the Able Danger files. How else would the Colonel be aware of it and why did they make repeated attempts to meet with the FBI if his name did not turn up in their analysis as being a person of potential concern?

"AbleDanger" was listed under the fiction section by the 911 commission and the liberal media as soon as the story came out.

Good luck anyway!
