PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia police announced Saturday that they have charged the 25-year-old former boyfriend of LaToyia Figueroa with her death.
Stephen Poaches, of West Philadelphia, the missing pregnant woman's former boyfriend and the father of her unborn baby, was charged with the murder of the 24-year-old woman.
Figueroa has been missing for a month.
Philadelphia police recovered her remains early Saturday in nearby Chester, located about 13 miles southwest of Philadelphia.
When Poaches was arrested in Chester, police said he was wearing a bullet proof vest and was carrying a pistol.
LaToyia Figueroa's father, Melvin Figueroa, said he was relieved that an arrest had been made.
"Now she can rest in peace," he said. "All I want is justice with that peace."
Figueroa, who was five months' pregnant when she disappeared and already the mother of a young girl, was last seen on the afternoon of July 18 in West Philadelphia. Police received a missing persons report July 21, McClane said.
The remains were recovered in a grassy, partially wooded lot near homes and a road in Chester. The area was cordoned off by yellow police tape Saturday morning.
A few dozen members of the Figueroa family and supporters arrived at the scene shortly after daybreak, clustering close to the police tape and embracing each other.
They declined to comment to reporters.
Relatives and friends, who have papered the city with flyers and held large-scale searches for any sign of Figueroa, had just marked the one-month anniversary of her disappearance. A reward fund for information had reached $100,000.
In my opinion, Natalee's body, for all practical purposes, no longer exists in any form that can be used for forensic purposes, perhaps including identifying. I've always thought they dumped her at sea using one of the party boats--if so, the sea quickly disposes of them. The best they might hope for would be if they could find some jewelry or something that the fish can't or won't eat. The rest would be gone.

Not sure, now that you mention it. I thought "pregnant girlfriend" might mean current, but given this kind of tomcat, it might not mean any such thing!
You can say that again--and I don't really think a lot of these latest killers are all that attractive. Joran (rhymes with urine) always looked like Frankenstein to me; Scott Peterson looks like a squirrel with bad breath; the Hacker guy looked like a skinhead punk. The ladies they killed, though, were gorgeous.

I don't disagree with you. I was just speaking from personal experience....I could turn a 5 hour public hearing into several cohesive 90 second stories without a problem.....crime stories, were a different story. For some reason I just never could get a handle on the "right" questions to ask.
They're charging him with only one count of murder?
Latoya & poaches went to a doctor appt. yet, when they got there, they didn't have the money for the visit..... THEN....they went to the bank and got $300., but didn't go back to the appt., and the next day, is when she disappeared. (After spending that previous night w/poaches.)
Sorry, don't agree with the Roe connection.
But agree that pregnant women are at particular risk of murder at the hands of the fathers. This has been true for all of history, especially in the case of unwed mothers. Getting pregnant out of wedlock is dangerous.

She was pregnant, married and did all the right things and still was murdered..

Not sure, but I think she was referring to the fact that Lacy was married to Scott; same situation with Lori Hacking and her husband. Both pregnant, both killed. There have been a lot more, but these two are recent and have been in the news. Your theory about unwed mothers doesn't hold water because marriage is no guarantee that a pregnant woman won't be killed by the baby's father.
Yes, it's the same girl friend who they think attacked her. She was jumped as she got out of her car; at the time only the boy friend and HIS girl friend knew that this poor girl was pregnant.
