If we had partitioned Iraq into 3 pieces (Sunni, Shite, Kurd), we could have contained this problem more. Perhaps only the Shite south going Islamic government. We still could have maintained bases out in the boonies to maintain a military presence in the Middle East.

Now we paid mucho $$$$ for a big "Iran West" that's ready to fall apart after we leave. A Yugoslavia without Tito, a divided Iraq without a strong, secular dictator.

Partitioning would have been MUCH cheaper, got us out faster, and most importantly, would have cost fewer American casualties.

American foreign policy always fails to clearly define beneficial objectives before it commits troops. Bush I was an exception. Look at the damage FDR did with Stalin, and Wilson during WWI.

>>western pornagraphy, alcoholism and sluttish dress are the true indicators of freedom

Sure, a part of it. Not everyone's tastes are the same.
Unless you are the type to enforce standards for everyone.

>>Freedom and license.

If you don't like something, dont indulge in it.
How do you define freedom.

>>Wahhabism is all of Islam

No, just the most influential Sunni doctrine today.

Christianity was not always like that...I seem to remember a time when the Catholic Church used to to do a real number on "non-believers..."

And we're not talking about the Monty Python version of the Inquisition.

I have to go pick up the kids at school. The closest thing to taking a shower. Somebody please monitor ITM : Iraq the Model. Omar is watching this unfold on TV and updating periodically.

Does the Iraqi constitution mention Christians & non-Muslims as 3/5 of a human being?

So much for ladies bare limbs, or barbers who shave beards, video stores showcasing hollywood/bollywood, or liquor stores.

Are these allowed in Afghanistan? As I understand it, something similar concerning Islam is in the Afghan constitution.

I am more than willing to be corrected.

"so if the new iraq wanted to become a terror state, that's OK with you?"

Where did you get that? I was defending Western culture against a Freeper who was criticizing our use of freedoms.

This has been bugging me for a week---I heard last week that this was heading toward Islamic Law only...and I posted it..

BUT, I didn't see/hear any one making the hugh deal about this that I was...I figured I must have misunderstood, because can ANY of us say truthfully, that if this constitution calls for a fundamentalist Islamic state, that we would feel like all of this has been for NOTHING!!!

Talk about giving Cindy Sheehan and pals AMMUNITION!!! Plus, the insurgents are still doing their nasty stuff. I could handle the insurgents IF I knew that the Iraqi people were fighting for their own DEMOCRATIC type government....but to have them go from Saddam to the Taliban...

I say that Bush should just quit...cause his "PARTY" is OVER.

bomb those people until they surrender.... plain and simple.

Right now our troops are being sacrificed to eliminate any doubt about whether the ME can pull itself together. The next time we go in, it will be more in the style of the Civil War/WWII. The enemy will never be ready to reform until it's brought home to civilians.

I say way to go Iraq! Big Step! We scrapped our first Constitution and it took us in total 11 years to get our act together! They are ahead of the game!

I wasn't expecting anything. I was only defending Western culture from a Freeper who criticized the way we use our freedoms.

Freedom isn't pretty. Iraqi freedom won't be pretty, either. If they in fact end up with much of it when all is said and done.

I cannot imagine a worse outcome...Taliban like rule?

Jeez louise...what the heck did these people learn---absolutely NOTHING!!!

I know I wouldn't give up on them yet...but you know that Kerry, Hagel, Cindy Sheehan and pals will be shouting about this from the rooftops...

and be demanding to bring the troops home now..

This is just horrible if it turns out this way.

Tx....I will give you the benefit of the doubt here....but cool down and rethink what you just posted.

This isn't going to be Taliban Lite.

I don't know about that. But this is a huge black eye. Trouble is, unless we locked up or killed every fifth person, this was going to happen. We just slapped the proverbial tar pit, and are now trying to figure out how to get out the cleanest.
