Inside the Beltway-Family breakdown (Charlie Rangel promotes absolutely fake document)
The Washington Times ^ | August 22, 2005 | John McCaslin

Family breakdown Rep. Charles B. Rangel, New York Democrat, says "the destruction of the black family" today can be traced to a single man from England who purposely paid a visit to Virginia during the early 18th century. "In 1712, British slave owner Willie Lynch was invited to the colony of Virginia to teach his methods of keeping slaves under control to American slave owners," Mr. Rangel says. "Almost 300 years later, the techniques that he prescribed seem to have not only been successful in controlling slaves, but lasting as a means of weakening and destroying the black family." Mr. Rangel explains that in slavery, "families were purposely divided, with husband and wives separated from each other and their children. Black males were humiliated and whipped in front of their wives and children. Stripped of their power and pride, black men were seen as weak, and black women had to be the strength of the household, distorting the traditional family structure."

Absolutely fake' As it turns out, the "Willie Lynch" cited by Rep. Charles B. Rangel in the preceding item is an urban legend based on a document widely circulated via the Internet in recent years. "There are many problems with this document -- not the least of which is the fact that it is absolutely fake," explains Jelani Cobb, a professor of history at Atlanta's Spelman College. "In the few years since the speech on how to train slaves first appeared, it has been cited by countless college students, a black member of the House of Representatives and become the essential verbal footnote in barbershop analysis of what's wrong with black people," the historian writes on his Web site (www.jelanicobb.com). Detailing evidence of the Lynch letter's falsehood, Mr. Cobb notes that this document was unknown to historians before its appearance on the Web: "Considering the limited number of extant sources from the 18th century, if this speech had been 'discovered' it would've been the subject of incessant historical panels, scholarly articles and debates. It would literally be a career-making find. But the letter was never 'discovered,' but rather it 'appeared' -- bypassing the official historical circuits and making its way via Internet directly into the canon of American racial [conspiracy theories]."

The destruction of the AMERICAN family can be traced back to the Great Society programs of LBJ. I guess they did not want to identify anything that might turn off the spigots at the public trough, or point to personal behavior and accountability.

God, when will these so-called 'leaders' let go of the professional victimhood? (answer: when we stop paying them!)

This may be an urban legend, but I have it on good authority that the sharks still circle the route of slave ships.

True...Charlie Rangel is a weak disgrace......but that's his choice.

He promotes victimhood as Bill Cosby speaks about responsibility.

Ironic that Rangel avoids the despicable smear of Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan in the mid 1960s when he measured and despaired of the rising poverty of inner city families and the rise of unwed parents after the implementation of the war on poverty.

Rather than laud him for finding that the new policies may in fact be backfiring and causing those most vulnerable to be undermined (for whom these policies were supposed to be) instead he was labeled a racist and was effectively discredited as a serious policymaker.

We can agree to disagree with the likes of late Sen Moynihan on policy. However, those who brought him down are not prepared for any logical or reasoned debate.

Main reason..aside of tired of being in the minority..which is NO fun in the House, is that he can make some BIG $$$..get a few corporate boards...the usual..and, AND if Hillary vacates her Senate seat, and we have a Dem governor, as seems likely..then Charlie wants the appointment..right now, he only gets attention from endless gigs on Hardball..

In his book "Masters of the Dream," Alan Keyes quite nicely demonstrates that it was the welfare state's moral undermining of the black family that damaged it far more than slavery ever did. During slavery, the concept of family endured in spite of the institution's efforts to interfere with it. The welfare state tried to make the family irrelevant.

In my opinion, the American Family came apart in clinton, clinton and gore administration.

sire clinton lied to the Grand Jury, "I did not have sex with that woman"

He raped Juanita Broddrick, both clinton and clinton know this...

He pardoned felons in the last hours of his presidency;

The other clinton knew about all this and helped in doing it or cover it up, she's as dirty as he is and gore is no better, he knew what clinton, and clinton were before he ever decided to take the VP offer.

Its no wonder our familys are torn apart, they look at these slimeballs and what they did and have done and are still doing, and they think they can do it...'only because they can'

Someday, I hope I live long enough to see this, the clintons will be gone, gone, gone.....
