'Christian' Pat Robertson calls for the assassination of Venezuela's President Chavez

hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.

In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:

There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.

It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.

We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.

We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.

We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

Have the ranks of Penetcostals taken a tumble lately?

Pat understands his position very well.

You posted exactly what I was thinking... thank you.... Yes God is love and yes God also judges sin...why do people have a hard time understanding this?

When did Pat Robertson become God?

Is it? You'll have to show me some details in church law to the contrary.

Hitler's church membership (if not his personal religious allegiance) is a fact of history.

Do you think Christ had in mind appeasing His enemies?

I don't recall there being anything in the rules that allows a Catholic to excommunicate himself ~ it takes an official action by someone in the priesthood authorized to do that.

That's only because of your ignorance of Catholicism. Those that engage in certain behavior automatically excommunicate themselves.

Oooo-kaaaay. . . Very scary thread here.

1. I agree that giving Comrade Chavez a .50 caliber lobotomy would be a good idea. Boy, does it ever suck having to be the Good Guys.

2. I agree that while it was appropriate for Churchill to advocate Herr Hitler's assassination, it would have been singularly inappropriate for the Pope to do so.

3. It seems some FReepers are unable to distinguish between the militaristic Old Testament of Jehovah, Lord of Hosts, and the New Testament of the Prince of Peace. "Love thy neighbor as thyself; on this hangs all the law and the prophets." This is what makes us different from the Islamo-Facists.

4. The whole idea that it's okay to kill anyone you consider an "enemy of Christ" goes directly against the founding principles of the Republic. I fear that some of the same people who are highly offended that the Left doesn't want Christians on the Supreme Court would be screaming for blood if a Republican nominee were 'outed' as a non-Christian. Freedom of Religion was so important to the Founding Fathers that they put it 'First of the First.'

"Have the ranks of Penetcostals taken a tumble lately?"

If what Robertson said causes one person to lose their chance at deciding salvation because they were grieved by what he said, yes the ranks will take a tumble.

It's not about the the numbers putting dollars in the plate on Sunday, it's about setting an example for others to follow.

And in the overall theme of things, do you think Bush and the CIA's decision to take out Chavez considers that Pat Robertson even exists?

More damage to the cause of Christ.

The "cause of Christ" is not injured by some wacko statement. People aren't anymore saved by your or his works or mouth, than they are saved by their own works or mouth.

Chavez has said that he the the world must "fight" against the US, and claimes the US is the source of all oppession and poverty in Latin America. He invited terrorist sponsoring countries to join him in his "fight".

Below is from a news account:

"That earlier march was to protest the ultra-Leftist policies of President Hugo Chavez Frias. He had been democratically elected in 1998, and the marchers believed Venezuela was a vibrant democracy with freedom of speech and assembly.
But as the marchers approached his palace, thugs began firing guns into the large throng of peaceful protestors. Fourteen of the unarmed marchers were killed and more than 100 were wounded. Between 60 and 70 people died later that day amid street violence.
Videotape by local television stations showed that apparently at least some of these gunmen were Chavistas, as Chavez’s rabid supporters are called, and were members of his "Bolivarian Circles," as he calls his own Marxist militia version of Hitler Youth and SS storm troopers."

When they wear military fatiques (as he sometimes does), when they shoot protesters, when they invite terror sponsors into their country, they are dangerous...HISTORY tells us to.

To say nothing of Christianity.

America is not Israel, fool.

Jesus says in Matthew 5:22 ; "anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell."

You should think before you post.

Secondly you missed my entire point.

If it is a sin to call for the assassination of an evil enemy, then that would make both God and Israel evil hypocrites.

When Pat Robertson ran for president, he surrendered his ministerial credentials.

Any reason you're looking to smear the Church? Feel it will win your argument?

Really, do you work for the UN? He is sitting on a large pot of oil, (bring anyone to mind?) He is supporting and is supported by FARC(sp), Cuba and others. His weakness's were shown pretty clearly already and he stiffled and killed the opposition. Ten more years of State Department propaganda might show some pregress, but a .500 from a thousand yard would show more.

Nope wouldn't have been wrong but he didn't as I recall. His predecessor did call for an out and out crusade once too. That was not a blight on the Christian faith as the revisionists would have us believe.

People who don't accept the teachings of the Church (as Hitler did) automatically excommunicate themselves. They can return to the Church through confession and penance, something that Hitler never did.

The Church was one of his worst enemies, and he regarded Christianity as a "slave religion." He was very devoted to Gnosticism and the occult, what we would now call New Age; in fact, it was from the occult tradition (including the Freemasons) that he got the swastika that was his regime's symbol.
