'Christian' Pat Robertson calls for the assassination of Venezuela's President Chavez

hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.

In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:

There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.

It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.

We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.

We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.

We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

More damage to the cause of Christ.

I didn't know Chavez was a Christian.

"Do your research before uttering ignorance..."

Ignorance is relative, isn't it? And just what is THE truth of the matter? Are people distorting "history?"?

Seems as though there is much knowledge, and "research," and MANY opinions and facts to consider...OR is it a conspiracy?

I agree with Robertson on this. If authors in this country can get their fiction published with fantasies about assassinating President Bush then surely a man with a broadcast outlet (like Robertson) can think aloud about the assasination of a communist thug like Chavez.

Hell, I have visions of grandeur about such things, on occasion. Why stop with Chavez though? Why not Kim Jong Il, Castro and some of the Mullah's in Iran?

Have you ever read the Bible? There are lots of stories how God, Himself went ahead of the Jews into battle.

True. But have you read the story of David? He had already been annointed to become king of Israel, but he refused to touch King Saul, who he was to replace, because he had also been appointed to be king. The NT says that we are to respect leaders and the Word doesn't differentiate between good and bad ones. IOW, no leader is in place without God's allowing him to be there. If a leader has gone bad, it's God's business how to deal with him. Not man's. Robertson is WAY off base here.

"...Hitler ANNOUNCED what he wanted to do..wrote it in his book...but the liberterian types of the day said, "He doesn't mean it...he was just upset about being in jail for having tried to kill the president" Other thoughtfull types of the day, said, "Allow Germany to rearm, then she will not feel threatened and thus will not wish to go to war."

Osama Bin Laden also announced what he was going to do, & few seemed to believe him!

I don't see this as damaging to Christianity at all. Chavez is an enemy of Christ.

How is that? Can you cite examples?

You'd be wrong to assume you can just put in a rightist government there in Venezuela. A Military Coup was already attempted, but it failed.

God uses man all the time to bring forth His will. It was God's will that David took out Goliath. And it had to be David who did it because David gave all the glory to God.

He was an anti-Christ. Your attempt to paint the Catholic Church with his feces is what is odious.

You're right. But David did not kill King Saul. And he forbade any of his men to do so. Saul's death was in God's time and manner, not David's.

And we all know how Christ Treats his enemies...

43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.'
44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you

Pat's entitled to his opinion which happens to be correct.

So, if Pat had said in 2002, "Let's avoid a war by bumping off Hussein," you would have considered that damaging to the Gospel?

Either we're killing terrorists and their supporters or we're not. Either Chavez is a terrorist supporter or he's not. If he is everything Robertson says he is, then we have every right, no, obligation, to splatter his brains all over something from long range.

Wow. Thanks for posting that. I hadn't realized that Christian religious leaders could issue Fatwahs.

When one of Pat Robertson's congregants assassinates the leader of another nation, then we'll know what kind of followers Pat Robertson has.

When you have some time, read through the Old Testament and take note of God's instructions to annihilate leaders, et al.

"You seem to forget the yes/no question you asked to start this discussion. Let me remind you what it was, it came from your post #12.....When that question was answered in post #21, you dismissed it as "sheer conjecture" in post #36. Any of this ringing a bell for you?""

Lol, for me??

To: F16Fighter "Btw, would it have been wrong for the Pope to have called for the execution of Adolf Hitler in 1940?

Yes.

But only because the Vatican would then have been destroyed by 1941."

Now my response:

" Sheer conjecture that the Vatican would have been destroyed by 1941. (italics implied)

Remember -- the Italians were 95% Catholic, as were many Germans and other Europeans."

Somebody needs a crash course in context and reading comprehension....

Treat yourself to a grape lollipop this time, sonny, and be careful. You're pissin' against the wind.
