The real-life anchorman brawl between the cable news nets is getting out of hand. Last night on Special Report, Brit Hume threw a trident that knocked CNN off the horse it rode in on:
Televangelist Pat Robertson's political influence may have been declining since he came in second in the Iowa Republican caucuses 17 years ago and he may have no clout with the Bush administration, but you wouldn't know that from watching CNN today.
CNN covered his call for Hugo Chavez's assassination at length, undeterred by the fact that during the noon hour CNN's own analyst, Bill Schneider, said Robertson had little influence. At the top of the next hour, there it was again followed by a glowing report on the alliance between Chavez and Cuban President Fidel Castro. And it led CNN's three-hour "Situation Room," followed minutes later by live coverage of reaction from the Venezuelan ambassador, and then nearly two hours after that an in-studio interview with the ambassador.
Plus, there was a man on fire: CNN's Jon Klein told the New York Times that Fox's Natalee Holloway coverage was "easy," "brainless," and "meaningless nonsense."
Fox News responded by lopping off Klein's arm: "If Jon performed as well as he talks he wouldn't have to explain his network's dismal ratings."
Fox to CNN: I guess I'll just have to take you at your word, number two.
TVNewser notes that CNN is "having its cake and eating it too [CNN Headline News] is becoming the lowbrow channel, the one that broadcasts car chases."
Last summer when I saw Anchorman for the first time, I could only dream that one day, real anchormen like "Wolf" Blitzer and "Shepard" Smith would battle it out in the streets, like men. Today, that dream is one step closer to reality.
It would be nice if the author told us what Hume said.
Let's start an online petition to get a Caged Death Match between these two!!
The first and second paragraphs of the post.
Tee Hee..this whole ordeal is hilarious. Thanks.
During his show, Brit Hume went to the trouble to note that another cable news network spent 3 hours covering this.
Hail Ants!
sorry...second and third paragraphs.
I thought the same. It's because NRO's formatting wasn't reproduced. The second and third graphs are Hume's comments, evidently.
Dan
What's CNN?
They did not put quotes around it, but it's the second and third paragraphs of the article.
formerly known as "Pravda."

Right wing senile old coot calls for Chavez assasination...it's a foreign policy crisis.
Fox to CNN: I guess I'll just have to take you at your word, number two.
Priceless!
Wow, so I see it wasn't just me. I dont watch the news much anymore, but I accidentally turned on the local news and THIS was the top story, they went on and on about it. I was like "who the f*ck cares WHAT that moron says" he has about as much clout in the overall conservative movement as I do. They sure did push this story though. I can't wait to have one of my liberal family/friends ask me what I though of what Pat Robertson said, I'll tell em "He's a f*cking idiot". I am sure they will be stunned to find out that the rank and file conservative doesn't give a flying fig what that guy says. To Liberals, us conservativs are a bunch of automatons, who get their orders from the Jesus Squad.
FYI..for the benefit of all the lady Freepers..former CNN anchor Bill Hemmer debuts on FOX this coming Mnday at noon..
Thanks Ken
