"... to think that the Libertarian and Constitution Parties could hammer out an alliance based upon common ground..."

LOL!

Humor, right? Satire? You didn't really think that was my intention...

To me, Libertarians seem about as Conservative as a hippie who decides to shower and shave every now and then.

"To me, Libertarians seem about as Conservative as a hippie who decides to shower and shave every now and then."

And to me, the Constitution Party teeters on the brink of advocating theocracy outright, but there is more common ground between the two than not, as far as a vision for real, constitutionally-limited governance is concerned. Where else do you see this? Nowhere else. Try to get past the stereotypes and see how much agreement there is on fundamentals, and see if you still hold the same opinion.

"Ah. You atheist, me Bible-thumper. Got it. "

Hardly. More like you uphold your moral beliefs, and I'll tend to mine. No governmental oversight necessary.

"I'll tend to mine"

More like "What morality?"

"They are isolationists."

An odd description. To me, the "big L" Libertarians are not isolationist enough, as far as immigration is concerned. The term might apply to them on military defense, what with their quaint notions about avoiding foreign entanglements and all. Now, who was it that originally suggested avoiding such, LOL?

I don't understand why people hate including more options on the ballot. Choice is healthy for a free society, blocking people from being able to choose who they can vote for is adverse to freedom IMO. So what if Libertarian's are on the ballot, who exactly does that hurt? And what rational argument can anyone make for giving people less choices at the ballot box? "Well , they might hurt my party..." Boo f-ing hoo. If you can win the vote on the issues you stand for, then there shouldn't be any need to worry about the other folks on the ballot. Just my humble opinion.

"More like "What morality?"

My, my... it must be awfully tight in that head. I have a fairly substantial posting history. I suggest you review it, before slinging silly, pointless insults such as this.

I see, so someone doesn't have morality if they're not getting it from you.

"They want totally open borders."

And this differs from the reality of the Republican Party just how? I'm speaking of their actions, not their words.

Is it complete folly, to think that the Libertarian and Constitution Parties could hammer out an alliance based upon common ground, in order to make some headway?

0 + 0 = 0

As I discussed above, people are worried that extra candidates may distort the intentions of the voters. Many attribute H. Ross Perot's campaign for the Presidency to being the deciding factor between George H. W. Bush and Clinton. Also as I discussed above, there are more people who consider themselves conservative than liberal, but elections tend to elect a disproportionately high amount of liberals. The only way to fix this is with IRV.

"I have a fairly substantial posting history"

I didn't think we were talking about personalities. I thought this was about party platforms.

In my opinion, Libertarians are essentially Democrats.

Whoa! Thats a little too far. The Democrats are socialists. Are you trying to tell me that the Libertarian Party supports social welfare programs?

Actually, I need to correct myself. That's way too far. The only thing that liberals hate more than conservatives are libertarians. While liberals love moral freedom, they love social welfare more. If you want to really anger a liberal, tell them you are a libertarian/conservative (or a Reagan conservative--modern conservatives obviously don't care for small government). 180 degrees from being a liberal, IMHO.

"The Democrats are socialists."

Agreed. Commies.

"Libertarian Party supports social welfare programs?"

Recall that I used the word "essentially."

No, they advocate smaller government. We do have some views in common.
