OTTAWA, August 25, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Former US President Bill Clinton will be in the Canadian capital on October 18, 2005 to deliver a keynote address at the gala launch of an organization called Professeurs pour la liberté (PPL). This is not the first time, the "partial-birth abortion president" has ventured north of the border for a speaking engagement, and like his other northern excursions, his appearance will not be lacking in protest.
While the cause of the inviting organization is a noble one, Clinton's presence will mar the evening. Professeurs pour la liberté aims to offer scholarships to young people from around the world to deliver tuition-free online education to the African continent.
"We plan to picket Bill when he comes to Ottawa," Aidan Reid of Campaign Life Coalition told LifeSiteNews.com. "Do we really want someone who spent his political career fornicating and promoting infanticide to influence the formation of young minds?"
Pro-lifers have good reason for their intolerance of Clinton. Known as the partial-birth abortion President due to having twice vetoed bills banning the infanticidal procedure, Bill Clinton's record is equally disturbing on family issues. Focus on the Family President Dr. James Dobson commented on Clinton in 2001 noting "No man has ever done more to debase the presidency or to undermine our Constitution - and particularly the moral and biblical principles upon which it is based - than has William Jefferson Clinton."
Campaign Life Coalition also picketed Clinton's speaking engagement in Hamilton Ontario in 2001 when Clinton spoke at a fundraiser for a Catholic hospital.
Borrowing Clinton's own favoured abortion lingo, Reid, Director of Public Affairs for Campaign Life, said he'd like to see Clinton's visits to Canada be "safe, legal, and rare."
